Successful Blogging Tips #04

What keyword phrase or terms would you want your site to pull up in the search engines? If you could only have one… what would it be? What is the primary search terms you want your site pulling up in the search engine?

My primary phrase is, “Successful Blogging Tips” because that is what Garry Conn dot Com is all about, providing bloggers with tips that help them create and maintain successful blogs. Is my site about making money online, well… yes, but having a successful blog is more than just making money online. So if I was to target the search term, “make money online”, I would be limiting myself with the range of people who would be interested in reading my site.

  • Choose a primary search phrase and coin your site with that name.
  • Ideally, your domain name or parts of your URL have these words in them.
  • Change your blog title to reflect your chosen search phrase.
    (Example: Successful Blogging Tip by Garry Conn)

  • Take a look at your Meta Tags and update them accordingly.
    (Example: Title Meta Description and Meta Keywords)
    Successful Blogging Tips
  • Your chosen keywords that you are marketing should be used frequently in your blog posts. You should have a category that is named identically and your content should wrap around this chosen phrase. Again, if this is what your site is primarily about, then doing this shouldn’t be too difficult.

See guys… look at Mark’s site! That is creative… the domain name is titled, “me and my drum”. Now to me, that’s catchy! I love it… these are examples of the next generation of blogs.

Mark, one tip though, my second click on your site was your about me page, which is a little empty. Tell the world more about yourself and your site! Show it off, fly your freak flag a little bit and have fun!! :)

Thanks Garry for the kind mention. I hope you can also join the Top Ten Emerging Influential Blogs in 2007 writing project by creating your own top 10 entry too. Cheers!

LOL

Thanks for the compliment, Garry! Yeah, I’ve been a little private since I started this blog of mine. But you’ve given me something to think about regarding that page. I should beef it up a bit. :)

Including personal information isn’t necessary and I can understand that you would want to keep that private. But you should at a minimum include information to readers regarding what your site is about. Honestly as it stands now, you might as well not have the about me page up. If you want more readers to quickly learn about what your site is about, I would up date the page. Regardless if you do or don’t, I like your site. :)

Tell me more about it. Who is the creator of this project? Where do I go to participate? I am interested in checking it out… it seems there are a few blog authors that included me on the list.

You had me at “…look at Mark’s site!” hehe

I’m off to do some updating.

Hi Garry, you ‘disappeared’ for a week with no posting and came back with so much great articles!

I’ve also nominated your blog in the Top 10 list, posted some 10 days ago. Without hesitation, your blog was the first to make my list.

My entry for Top 10 is here: http://betshopboy.blogspot.com/2007/05/top-10-emerging-influential-blogs-in.html

Great stuff, Garry. Glad to see your blog fixed and looking good. I must admit it was a bit of a shock to see your sudden change to “the announcement” mode after all of the hard work you have put in. But Murphys Law is always lurking just waiting to grab us.

I changed the text on my blogroll to “successful blogging tips”. Hope it helps out. Nice to see your blog steadily making progress.
Cheers!

Congrats! I’ve learned over the last few months how important it is to track your sites important search terms. It is also a great way to see improvement (kind of like stepping on the scale each day!). :)

14 Mark { 05.29.07 at 11:25 pm }

Okay, I took another stab at it. I’m ready for your straight-shooting so be frank. :)

I didn’t want it to come off as some sort of “soapbox” statement, but I get the feeling it could be improved somewhat. Your comments are most appreciated.

15 Garry Conn { 05.30.07 at 4:43 pm }

Wow… thanks for adding me to the list… and thanks for making me #1 in the list! :)

16 Garry Conn { 05.30.07 at 4:45 pm }

Thanks Kyle… I am glad that you have been doing some good tracking over there. I check your site from time to time and it is great to see it growing. I regret not spending as much time as I used to over there and in June I intend to spend more time over at all my friends blogs and just a little less time here… Not to worry though, I will still publish many posts here… but I am going to focus time on other sites too. :)

17 Garry Conn { 05.31.07 at 11:04 am }

The site is now ranked 25th, which has bumped up 3 spots, so yes… your efforts can do nothing but help. Thank you so much! I am glad to hear from you again as well. I thought that I lost you as a regular reader. What do you need help with, what can I write about that will specifically help you as a blogger?

18 George { 05.31.07 at 7:44 pm }

Congratulations Garry! Google moved me up to number 3 for make money online this week, I guess we can both do the “dance of joy”!

Talk with you later,
George
