Syndicate StumbleUpon Using RSS

stumble-rssStumbleUpon is really cool. I have been a registered member since April, 14th 2007 but never really ventured to take much time into learning about it. There is a wavy of interest lately with both abusers as well as legitimate stumblers who really enjoy the service. With such hype about the service going on, naturally I have to check it out. And to my surprise, StumbleUpon is actually really cool. And so now, being the fact that I always have to be different… I have taken full advantage of the fact that my stumble page has RSS Syndication and decided to display this syndication in my sidebar. I figured that if I was going to be a Stumbler, I should broadcast the sites I stumble on my blog!

Many people abuse StumbleUpon, Digg and other similar sites. My goal here is to show you that it is NOT necessary to use programs like StumbleUpon in a way that floods your blog with traffic. Long story short… the same rules apply to blogging as they do with StumbleUpon. If you contribute towards stumbling great quality content, then other Stumblers will learn to appreciate and trust what you stumble. That in itself will create new readers for your blog. A huge problem I see with StumbleUpon and Digg is the masses of people who pool together in little secret networks who perform mass voting on their articles. This degrades the quality of sites such as StumbleUpon and offers absolutely no measure for learning what people’s true perception is of you and your blog.

My goal here is to illustrate that you can be creative with how you use programs such as StumbleUpon and do things like I have done today. By displaying an RSS syndication of the sites that I stumble live on GCDC, I add to the level of quality found on my own blog and I provide my readers with sources to other great pages that I feel are worth sharing. And to me… “That’s what Stumbling is all about…”

Enjoy!

On my blog we do the same thing. I have my del.icio.us links stream in and my friend has his StumbleUpon links stream in.

Hi Jake,

That is great. You have a wonderful looking blog. Thanks so much for commenting. Who knows how long it would have been until I ran across it if you hadn’t stopped by and dropped a line. I stumbled your blog and wrote a nice review. I hope to see you around more.

Take care,
Garry
