BlackBerry Curve VS Apple iPhone - Which Is Better?

May 6th, 2008 by Garry Conn | 18 Comments

It seems like my wife wants a new cellphone at least once every three months, it’s terrible. Now to be honest, I am really not that big of a cellphone nut. In fact, I really don’t officially even have a cellphone. I just use my wife’s when I need to. Sounds crazy, right? Well, it’s true.

Now, as far as my notebook computer is concerned, I take that thing everywhere. But, that in itself is part of the reason why it’s time for me to break down and purchase a new mobile phone. The problem, however, is the fact that I have no clue which phone is right for me. I was hoping that you could help me decide.

Overall, I have narrowed my selection down to two phones: BlackBerry Curve and the Apple iPhone.

Now before you go jumping on the comment form with your recommendations, allow me to tell you more about my life and what I am looking for in a phone. I am a pretty simple guy, so I don’t need much here. LOL!!!!

Long story short, I am looking for a gadget - whether it be a phone or a device with phone capabilities - that can almost replace my notebook. Before you go saying that that is impossible, let me tell you a little more about what I do with my notebook. I am not a big time gamer, I don’t need hard cord 3d graphic cards and things like that. I pretty much use my notebook exactly what its designed for. I don’t tweak it and I don’t do crazy things with it. My Internet activity is actually quite simple and very boring. All in all, I surf the web, read blogs, publish on my own, check email, instant message and watch YouTube videos.

That is all I really do with my notebook computer and that is all I really want to do with a wireless device, can I get that from a mobile phone? If so, then which phone.

Here is a quick overview of the things I’d like to do with my phone:

  1. Talk on it… duh!!!
  2. Address book.
  3. Camera/ Video
  4. Full Internet Access (full viewing just like on a notebook)
    - Thinking that iPhone might be a little better in that dept.
  5. SMS text messaging
  6. Gmail Talk, Yahoo Instant Messenger, ETC
  7. YouTube Videos
  8. Google Reader, Blogs, etc..

The more I think about it, I am favoring the Apple iPhone, just by reviewing all their features. However, I do leave this up to you. Drop me a comment and let me know which of the two phones would be best for me. Also, perhaps there is a third phone that I am failing to consider? If that’s the case, let me know about that phone as well.

Choosing a phone that best fits my needs is important. All in all, I am just tired of being out and about with my notebook without access via wifi or wireless networks. An example would be watching one of my kid’s ball games. As I enjoy watching the games, I too wouldn’t mind catching up on some things online. Another example is when we’re going on road trips, I’d like to be able to surf the web and do as many of the normal things I do with my laptop using my phone while on the road.

Drop me a comment, I’d really like you to share your thoughts and opinions on this post. :)
