I provide a very casual Internet presence service for local business owners who are mainly friends in my home town. About a year ago a friend of mine contacted me and asked for my assistance with helping design a website for him to help promote his home inspection business. Keeping a long story short, the end result was the creation of a site titled, Clarksville Home Inspection.
Currently, my client’s website is accessible in most all of the major search engines and totally dominates in the SERPs. In part of assuring the success for my client, coupled with the intentions of also capitalizing on yet another niche, about a month after launching Clarksville Home Inspection, I created a second website called Home Inspections Directory. This is a web site where home inspectors from across the United States can submit their business listing into my database for free. Most importantly, this is also a place where my local client from Clarksville gets some free promotional perks.

Many other competing sites charge a huge annual membership fee for inclusion, yet their performance delivered to their clients is quite questionable. Home Inspections Directory remains free and has recently spiked some huge interest levels within the home inspection business niche.
Take A Niche, Run With It and Don’t Look Back….
This concept is what fuels what I do. In learning more about the home inspection business, I quickly discovered that radon gas exposure is something of a huge concern with home owners and residents within the United States. Because of that, there is a huge demand for having radon gas tests performed in homes. I never realized that! Radon gas exposure is actually quite freaky. You can’t smell it, taste it or see it and prolonged exposure to it can lead to disease, commonly in the form of lung cancer.
What is the solution? Well, there are quite a few solutions available. An affordable solution is to purchase a radon test kit. Initially, I thought a test kit like that would cost hundreds of dollars. In actuality, the average cost for a test kit is around $15 bucks!
What does that mean? Well, I am not sure what that means to you, but for Garry Conn, that means… “easy sale”.
So, lets roll backwards again…. I created Clarksville Home Inspection to aid in Internet exposure for my client and his local home inspection business. I created Home Inspections Directory to help assure his exposure by developing an entire “niche on demand” website and lastly, I discovered the demand for radon gas test kits.
So, with the huge demand for these radon gas test kits, what does Garry Conn do?
Create a website that sells radon gas testing kits.

How do I sell radon test kits?
lol!! Come on guys… this is 2008, there is an affiliate program for everything on the Internet. And sure enough, I found a wonderful company who provides an amazing affiliate program on radon gas test kits who offer 20% payout! For affiliate marketers, that’s huge!
The end result is this…
Sometimes in order to take a niche, run with it and not look back, you have to create another niche to compliment and promote it. In the case for my local business owner and friend, I felt the need to create a niche site (Home Inspections Directory) to give me a medium for helping promote his local business. In light of creating this medium to help my client, it also helped me create a second niche site that targets radon gas as well as many future expansions that also tie into the home owners and home inspections niche.
When I say, take a niche, run with it and don’t look back… I mean just that. If you want something and want to be number one at it, you have to do more than just slap up a blog or website and expect results. You have to create the results and in some cases you have to create a new artificial dot Com world to incubate and support the niche. All in all, if you want it, you have to own, you have to be it and most importantly you have to take the niche, be the niche, run with it…
and don’t look back!

A very good example of how to follow up on an opportunity and to what extent to take it (in terms of creating a specialist or niche site) - ie. not just putting an affiliate link onto the Home Inspections Directory.
Can I ask best to find affiliate links for things like this that are something other than the top online stores?

That was a great article Garry. On your Radon Test Kits site, how do you get those third party articles to show up on your side bar?
By the way, congratulations on the new baby.

Even though I’m a beginning blogger and my niche is writing/creativity I find your articles very helpful. It wasn’t until I found my niche that the blogging bug bit. Thanks for the good information.

Garry;
What software do you use for the link directory?
Is that the best software to use in your opinion?
Thanks,

@ Writing Nag,
The blogging bug bites hard! Soon, you’ll be blogging under candle light with a computer being powered off a running vehicle during a power outage too!
@ Mark,
It’s all about WordPress. I can make WordPress into anything I want. For me, WordPress is like a bucket of play doh.
Is it the best software out there? I am sure not. However; it is free, widely supported , safe and secure and so very easy to word with.
@ K,
I have a very good domain name in the Apple iPhone niche called, Apple iPhone Discounts. Contact me privately if you would like to discuss some possible business opportunities for the both of us.

You can cross promote your radon test kits with your home inspections site. As it grows, so does your affiliate site.
Nice work!

Look out everyone — K is on the move!!
Nicely done, Blog Father. I really like the step-by-step type posts. Something I need to work on is the creativity part — finding that side stream to tap into.
