The Best Ways To Get Traffic From Social Networks
Social networking sites such as StumbleUpon.com, YouTube.com and the newly created Geeks! are excellent places to mingle with people who share similar interests as you. For bloggers, it seems like a lot of people, including myself at times, have difficulty with tapping into the traffic streams found within these sites. In this post I have included a few tips that may help you with gaining more traffic to your blog from social networking sites.
First piece of advice I’d like to offer you is that most users within social network sites are not bloggers. In fact, many users don’t like bloggers too much simply because majority of bloggers tend to enter into their community and attempt to infest it with promotional content aimed at marketing their blog.
Look at comment spam as an example. I can’t stand comment spam. As a blogger it is like my world mission to kill and prevent comment spam. Why? Simple, comment spam is something that causes my blog to lose purity and quality. So having that said, consider how users feel about bloggers when bloggers enter into their territory.
Much traffic can be attained from social networks. However, there is a wrong way towards trying to score traffic and a better way. The wrong way is obvious. Setting up a new account and spamming a network doesn’t sit well with the many established users. However, setting up an account and investing time into completing your profile page, adding a nice picture of yourself and finding real online friends who share similar interests does sit well.
My advice to you is to use social networks exactly how they were designed to be used, meeting friends. If you do things correctly and act less like a blogger, then soon you will find natural and organic traffic start flood in. Also, most of the social network sites include tools which allow you to syndicate your content within their network. FaceBook is an excellent example.
With FaceBook, you have the ability to pipe in your content from your blog, Twitter, FriendFeed, Digg and many other places where you contribute and add content. Another example would be at Geeks! On this network, I can re-publish videos that I upload to YouTube and also display them on the Geeks Community Site. The same thing goes for FaceBook as well.

Great video. So far, the social network I have most used is, Twitter. I just use other social network for networking with my offline friends. Never tried to use them to market my blogs.

I’ve always had a hard time pulling traffic from the social networking sites because I didn’t go out and make friends. I’ve really got to do a better job at that.
thanks Garry, I have to admit that I’ve been guilty of comment spam in the past (both by accident and through ignorance) but I’ve always been careful not to use social networking to promote my blog too aggressively.
