The Power of One Blog Reader

with 5 comments

power-buttonA lot of new bloggers feel like their blog totally sucks because it gets a relatively low amount of traffic and the posts receive little to no comments. While this might not be good, its really not all that bad either. With over 110 million blogs in the wonderful world we call the blogosphere, everyday many new bloggers feel like if they had got into blogging a year or two ago, things would have been better. It’s like people feel that they missed the bandwagon or opportunity to cash in on something great. The window of opportunity has been missed because there are millions of other established blogs that make it difficult to compete with.

The reality of the situation really couldn’t be any more different. The opposite is the truth. It doesn’t matter when you started blogging. It doesn’t matter how many other blogs are more established than your blog. The typical and standard rules of marketing, promoting and competing really don’t apply in the world of the blogosphere.

Unlike the real world, where it can cost businesses millions of dollars to effectively promote their company, product or services; blogging in the blogosphere is completely different and it’s free! It doesn’t cost you a dime to launch a blog and write on it. It doesn’t cost you a dime to effectively promote and market it to a targeted audience. You can do all this for free. But, the problem is that many bloggers don’t know how to do that.

This concept all starts with your first reader. While majority of new bloggers complain about their blogs being the best kept secret on the Internet, they have a very powerful tool at their disposal. That tool is your very first committed and dedicated reader. Never under estimate the power of one reader.

If you create a Google Alert for my name, Garry Conn, you will soon discover that many people say really wonderful things about me. For one, to me personally, that is awesome! But, within these wonderful things that people say about me, there is one particular thing that I really enjoy hearing even more:

bobby-revell

A new fan of mine, and very nice guy named Bobby Revell made a comment about me on a blog post at a really cool blog titled, BlogsWeLuv. Comments like this, tell me that I am doing my job well. Why? Because I understand the power of having just one reader.

A few hours later, that same blogger, Mr. Bobby Revell, published an article on his blog and mentioned me again:

bobby-revell-blog

Because I invested time into getting to know him and acknowledged him as the wonderful person that he is, I very well may have acquired a new fan and reader for life. In that same moment of interaction with Bobby, I also consolidated my efforts and published a very sincere and genuine comment about the blog we met in:

blogs-we-luv-comment

But wait… I am not done yet! In the process of complimenting bobby and the author of BlogsWeLuv.com, I also took an additional extra step to associate the success of the blog with the readers who contribute and visit that blog. So, now I have addressed a huge compliment to a very large group of people and also assigned responsibility of the blogs success to the multiple contributors of that blog.

What Value of One Reader?

That is an interesting question, isn’t it? Many people would guess that having only one reader on your blog would be terrible, right? Let me illustrate to you how much value just one reader has over the period of one year:

  • One blog reader can make you $1000 dollars! After one year, one blogger could potentially click over 1000 Google Adsense Ads, join every program you recommend, such as Agloco, donate money via popular widgets such as, Buy Me A Beer, and possibly even advertise directly on your blog.
  • One blog reader will provide you with over $10,000 dollars in free advertising! After one year, one blogger will promote and market your blog. They will add your blog to their blogroll, mention your name, talk about your blog and provide direct links to your home page and hundreds of individual articles that you have written during that year. That same person will also campaign for you when they visit their other favorite blogs. This is all worth quite a bit of money and people pay a lot to have this done! Yet, your one blog reader does it all for free!
  • One blog reader will become your greatest name sake protector and ally. Do you need a body guard? Do you need someone to protect you? In the wonderful world of blogging, every blog author will run into a situation where someone might start harassing them. Typically when this happens, an invisible wall is built and your readers will protect you. One blog reader can become your biggest firewall against intruders. How much do body guards who are always on call 24/7/365 cost? I think that is priceless!

When I mentioned about Bobby Revell, BlogsWeLuv.com, and the blogs entire reader base, I know for a fact that I scored the interest of many people. I invested about 25 minutes of my time to write the comments and stumble the blog of the author as well as a few of the blogs of the other contributors.

The way I see it, one reader is worth over $11,000 dollars. And in just 25 minutes, I have paved a road towards collecting $22,000 dollars and an additional $11,000 dollar for every reader I gained while making my appearance.

Keep in mind… this all happened in just 25 minutes, and I have been blogging for about 16 hours today. You do the math.

If you are new at blogging, don’t wait for readers to find you… go out and find them! It doesn’t cost dime to blog, and it doesn’t cost a dime to advertise; however, if you don’t take advantage of the virtual and viral face value of each and every individual reader you have, then you could be potentially losing thousands of dollars per hour. The power of one blog reader is amazing. I only hope that I was successful in helping you see that. Drop me a comment, I would love to hear from you. If you enjoyed reading my article, please help spread the word about my blog to others.

  4. Actually, you’re kinda wrong on one point. Sometimes it DOES cost you to start up a blog and write on it. If you bought a domain and hosting that is. If you’re on a free service like Blogger or WP.Com then no, it doesn’t.

  5. Domain names are a dime a dozen and hosting is the same. If you can’t fork up $15 dollars towards a domain name and your first month payment towards web hosting, you might be in the wrong business. But, yes… you are right. To get a domain name and to get web hosting, you will have to pay a little money, but in the long run, its not that difficult to pay that cost off. Thanks for stopping by and thanks for the comment. Also, I really love the graphics on your blog.. nice work! :)
