Top Reasons Why YOU!!! Should Write An Ebook

Have you been wondering why your blog just purely sucks? Why it is the best kept secret on the Internet? Why you can’t even get your mother to visit it? Well, first off your blog doesn’t suck and as far as it being a secret on the Internet, I am hoping to help you change that.

If you’re a good blog writer, then your problem isn’t in your quality of content, it’s in your ability to promote and market your blog and the jewels hidden inside it. Writing an Ebook could be a very viable solution to your marketing problem. Here is why.

  1. Ebooks are very popular, especially free ones. People download Ebooks like they were going out of style. The thing that is most ironic about this fact is that most Ebooks totally SUCK! They are terrible, offer zero quality and absolutely provide no material for helping people. Yet, time and time again, people download these digital pieces of garbage. If you can control yourself and manage to write something really useful, Ebooks aren’t hard to do. The people that break free from this viral trend of writing garbage Ebooks are the ones that really prosper.
  2. Ebooks are very search engine friendly. I read tons of SEO blogs. Most of the suck, I just try to be a nice guy and not make a big stink about it. However, again… most SEO blogs don’t know crap about SEO. They just do a great job with branding their name and making people think that they’re an expert, while in reality they are not. I have never ones ran across a post on an SEO blog that talks about PDF files. Yet Google talks about PDF files all the time. PDF Files are very search engine friendly. If you write an eBook in PDF format and upload it to your server and then tell everyone about your Ebook and where to download it, in return they will write posts about your EBook and provide direct links to your the URL where other people can download it. That, my friends, is called back links and back links is what builds up PageRank and PageRank is what builds up authority in the SERP rankings. If you’re eBook then has links that point to various posts and sections within your blog, then you are helping build your own internal pages PageRank. You won’t get tips like that on any cheesy SEO blog.
  3. Ebooks can help you make money. Again, if you’re not an idiot about it, you can use an Ebook to promote products that you approve on and feel like it would be helpful to share with others. If the products you recommend happen to have an affiliate program coupled to it, great! Make a little money by scoring some leads or sales. There is nothing wrong with that. However, keep this word in mind: PERCEPTION. What do people perceive of you and your Ebook. If people believe that you’re just using this Ebook for the purpose of making money, you’ll make readers feel as if you believe them to be simple money whores. If you come across to people as if you care only about making money off them, that is offensive and will deliver a negative reaction. If you have found a product that really helps you become better at something and it has impacted how you do things, etc… then sure! Write an Ebook about it and tell the world.

That is all for now about Ebooks, I could go on and on about them. One more thing that I want to point out is this: Ebooks are not hard to produce. They don’t have to be long, in fact, you can produce a 5 page Ebook and that would be fine too. I believe writing Ebooks and writing blog posts are very transferable. Meaning, if you ‘re good at blogging, you too can be good at writing Ebooks. Just remember that people want to be SEMI. If you don’t know what SEMI is, I suggest that you read this post that I wrote titled, Top Ways To Create A Positive Buzz on Your Blog.

Another thing that should be mentioned about ebooks is that they can be used for years to come. I’ve seen several ebooks that were written 5 years ago that are still as useful now as they were then.

Very excellent point! Ebooks do seem to have a very long shelf life. You are right because I have downloaded some Ebooks where the links point to sites that no longer exist.

I was too tired to write any more, and thought it was better than doing a lame “nice post”. LOL

I think we all have an ebook or two in us.

I have been throwing the idea of writing a beginners guide to fly fishing and I was thinking of creating an ebook and journal for backyard gardening.

The idea of writing a crappy ebook keeps me from taking that first step.

PDF are very popular because both Mac and PC users have access to them, unlike other ebook formats.

I think the best time for me to write a couple of ebooks would be will I am actively doing what I will write about. The fact that it is gardening and fishing then I am going to have a very busy spring, summer and fall this year. Yipeeee

Do you know that if you make an useful eBook that people like, they will share it with the rest of the world. I mean: friends, communities, forums, etc. Just don’t forget to put a link to your website on every page of the eBook and you will gain tons of readers! :)

Garry, as you know, I have been thinking about this for a very long time. Maybe 2008 will be the year I actually pull the trigger and put something down on paper.

I wonder if a ghost writer would help me?

You write good enough to do it yourself. Or is that more of an, “I don’t want to do it myself” type of situation? If that’s the case, then I think that would be cool. Who would you hire and how much would you be willing to pay?

It’s more of a “I don’t have the time” thing. I can’t keep up with what I have.

Pay ?

Ok, maybe I will have to do it myself, lol……

Ghostwriters don’t do this stuff for free. Well, you could always work out a deal where they could get credit and links on the book, but then that defeats the purpose of being a ghost. :)

Now you are going to make me think seriously about this.

Ok, maybe Ghost is the wrong word, maybe I just need a PARTNER that can take my general notes and write it up into something readable?

eBook by David Cooley and ______ ______

hhhmmmm……..

That is a viable option. I don’t see why a writer wouldn’t be interested in that. So basically what you would like to do is just dump all your notes written on napkins and ideas written on scratch paper and just put it all into a box and ship it to the writer and say, “here… handle this and you can have 50% credit for it!”

I think there are people who’d be interested in that. If fact there may be people that actually “specialize” in that. Unfortunately, I wouldn’t know who to turn to for that. Do you think Brennan would be interested in something like that? To me it would sound like a win/win situation.

She would have the task of writing the content, but have the reward of having her name and link to her home page on the document that will get downloaded thousands and thousands of times over the course of many years. To me, that has a lot of value. Especially knowing that the PDF is machine readable and very search friendly. In fact, I am starting to see more and more instances of PDF files turning up in the SERPS.
