Want to join me in starting a private ad network?
The last few days I have had a huge interest in gaining more private ad sales. If you notice many of the bloggers who public their income statements on their blogs, you will quickly discover that most of them report a huge percent of their total income due to private ad sales. A few days ago, I also explained how I felt that there is a demand for providing advertisement slots on leading blogs and a possibility that there is a lack of space to accommodate ads.
With that being said, I am toying with the idea of creating a private ad network among bloggers who read my blog. We’re all about making money online and I know that it can be difficult for many to pass that breaking point where you can proudly say, “Hey… I am making good money!”
If I can get enough people to join with me I would then have the resources needed to contact advertisers directly and say, I have x amount bloggers who in a whole have x amount of traffic per month and target x type of readers. So you tell me… what are your thoughts? Does this sound like something you would like to do? Does this sound like something that you would like to participate in?
If so, then here is what I need from you:
- You have to have Google Analytics. Second part to that is you need to have at least two months of traffic data collected.
- You need to have a spot to display an array of different size graphics above your top fold and site wide. To keep things simple, I would suggest that everyone maintain a standard of having a 125×125 above the top fold and on your sidebar. Most of us do.
If you have these two elements in place, then I would say that you meet the minimum requirements to participate. However, within that I would need:
- Google Analytics has the option to export your reports to PDF. I would need a copy of your last two full monthly reports emailed to me on PDF.
- I would want to know a REASONABLE price in which you would like to sell your 125×125 ad space for a 30 day period. For now, this would be a dedicated (non rotating) advertisement.
Really, I think that is all for now. How I for see this all working is I would gain the interest of about 25 bloggers who want to participate. From there I would collect the Analytics reports from each participate and tally up traffic totals among the entire group and then figure out the percentage of total traffic per each individual participate. From there that would allow me to figure out what percent each participate would collect on the total group advertisement money.
Because I would be the coordinator of this project and because I would be the one sending the emails and making the cold calls, naturally I am going to have a higher cut in the money. At this time, I don’t know how much… I am not really worried about that right now because really at this stage, all this is more of a suggestion and a thought. Before I go nuts with this, I need to see if there is actually interest within my readers first.
If I get a bunch of comments, emails and IMs with expressed interest, then I can go more in a forward direction towards this idea.
So… I guess right now, what I need to know from you guys is who would be interested in joining with me in a private ad network? Again, I mention the number of 25… I guess to me that would be the minimum number needed to make this all worth it; however, the sky is the limit and the more I get who want to participate, the better.
Imagine this… imagine an advertisers being presented with an advert opp that involves the participation of over 100 bloggers, who on a moments notice can instantly display their banner ad. To me… that is a pretty power form of adverting and a very viral way of thrusting a message forward within the blogosphere.

Like I said in the post, I am not really going to do much work with any of this unless I know I have at least 25 people interested in participating. I am have created a private Google group to help stay organized with this project. It seem like there is quite a bit of interest in this and I had a pretty decent turn around in the last 24 hours. Pretty cool. I might create an advertisement on my blog that will point to this post to see if I can gather the interest in the remaining number of people needed. For those interested, you might want to spread the word about it and ask a few of your friends if they would be interested.

That is what makes this group interesting. It’s all about the little guy and the bloggers with low to medium volume in traffic. We we all combine our blogs as one unit, then we’re talking good numbers. Right now, I am guessing that you are not selling private ads on your blog. I am going to try to make that happen. For the time being though, I am not lifting a finger unless I know that I have enough people interested and on board. I think I have about 5 or 6 people with me on this project so far, I need around 20 more to make this worth our while.
