Website Redesign In The Works

Well, the days of JavaScript errors, dropped comments, and hanging pages are numbered. I have been working on a website redesign for a few days now, and I figured I would go ahead a pre-announce this and provide a link to my beta page. That way all you guys and gals who visit here often won’t be in for shell shock when I eventually do go live with the update. Here is a screen shot:

Successful Blogging Tips To Make Money Online

… and here is a link to the beta page: Click Here

I am going to continue working on the redesign and hopefully have it live in about 24 hours. I have quite a few irons in the fire, but this is something that has been bugging me for awhile.

I have opened up a new category to Garry Conn dot Com and will soon start writing articles about making money online. By adding articles that provide tips and tricks to making money online to my arsenal of archives, this should really help step things up and provide an even higher level of support for my readers.

I really look forward to the near as well as distant future for the site. May was an awesome month for me online. I made quite a bit of money last month and my forecasting for June doesn’t show any let up. Thank you so much for reading the site and I am very pleased to discover how many different people I have helped in some way or another. Keep on reading and I will keep on writing.

The new one looks nice but I do like what you have now. The icons on the new one are a lot smoother than the same ones here, which is good.
Why the change? What does the new one do better for you?

I must have skipped over the “JavaScript errors, dropped comments, and hanging pages are numbered.” I haven’t noticed any for a long while now.

Looks very nice!

I had enormous frustrations with the various K2 themes, which is why I switched. Since switching to a non-K2 theme, I’ve had no problems redesigning it to fit my preferences.

I think once you get the switch made you’ll thrive!

Wow!!! Let me pick up my jaw from the floor beofre i continue! The new website design is awesome! I always have a thing for those web2.0 buttons, and your new design has plenty of them!

There are quite a few problems that I don’t like with the K2 theme. One thing that comes to mind, which might or might not be an issue, but still bothers me either way, is the fact that I now have to install a make shift plugin that disables a newly added feature within WP 2.2 that is soon becoming a standard. Second thing is the fact that I am not a programmer. So the more I modify and tweak things, the more likely there is a chance for me to inadvertently create a problem. With the new design I keep things pretty simple, but the overall design is sparkling! It should be comfortable, pleasing and relaxing to the eyes. And as always, my content should be up front and in you face. :)

The new design does make me feel better knowing that I have tackled issues with functionality. You may not be experiencing trouble anymore, but there are still some readers that do. Additionally, I want my site to look great no matter what browser you use and no matter which device you use. I have discovered quite a bit of readers who use their cell phones, portable devices, and Nintendo Wii’s to read and surf my site. On that same note, there are readers who use computers of many different resolutions. For me, it is very important that the site looks absolutely perfect for all readers. All in all, the change is less about what it does for me and more for what it does for my readers. I don’t want to turn anyone down. And every new visitors I have to the site, I want to keep them as a regular reader… no matter how or what device they use to access the site. :)

thanks Kyle… I am glad that you like the new design. I am sure you feeling my paid with K2. Out of the box, K2 seemed to be awesome. Which I am not bashing it and saying that it isn’t. But I just think, with this updated design, that the site will take things to a higher level of quality for my readers. I am ready to thrive! :)

The new header looks great Garry! BTW with me the screenshot of Reviewme overlapped with the sidebar, I am using Safari on a MAC; I’m guessing it doesn’t do that with the Big boys like Firefoex and IE.

Ah.. looks nice. but i would definitely recommend to adopt a 3 column theme now itself. I am now cramped for space on the single sidebar.

But I didn’t like the header. The font of the text is kind of weird and so are the icons stacked on the left. Both these almost occupy the entire header space :)

I really like the look of the new site Garry! The only comment I can make is that in 1680×1050 the site is smaller than I would like. However that’s out of your control and it’s my own fault for using such a resolution when browsing the web. :)
I’m excited to see how it will turn out!

I am going to be delayed quite a bit on the release of the redesign. I have GOT to figure out how to make the theme adjustable, or fluid with design.

12 Garry Conn { 06.04.07 at 12:55 am }

I will keep that in mind. Anyone else feel the same?

Can we get some votes here on two columns versus three? Also, Venu… are you thinking that I should have two sidebars on the right side or one on each side of the page?

Thanks for your feedback on the header… although, I think I am going to go ahead and shoot myself because I worked on the header for a long time :(

I am joking… I appreciate your input. So, you would rather see a more clean crisp font instead of the cursive style… that’s cool. And small icons… btw when I am done with that, each of those buttons will be “clickable”.

13 Garry Conn { 06.04.07 at 12:57 am }

That is where a fluid width will come in handy. It is hard to design that way, but I am going to give it a shot because I too have 1680×1050 on my wide screen laptop and it does look rather narrow. Thanks for the feedback! :)

It’s 3:00 A.M. and you are wide awake playing video games!

We have a slight delay in the website re-design. Unfortunately, the power of a Nintendo Wii hinders my ability to get anything done… especially when I can play some of my old school Nintendo Favorites!. Sorry guys… but I am a HUGE Nintendo fan! I am crazy about Nintendo… crazy I tell ya! Crazy!

Ok.. back to work! :)

15 Venu { 06.04.07 at 10:44 am }

The positioning of the third sidebar should be your preference. Both would look fine :) .

I just couldn’t stop laughing for some time after seeing you comment on the header.. haha.. No need to shoot yourself. It isn’t that bad.

Only that the text and image stack project out of the header image border/Also they kind of occupy almost 100% of the header.

16 Garry Conn { 06.04.07 at 12:35 pm }

I a perfect world it would be great to have a site that detects what you screen resolution is and makes adjustments on the fly! That would be awesome. No I might not shoot myself, but i might print that header and post it on a tree and put a target on it and start shooting at that! :)

I actually feel the opposite. I’m trying to figure out how to get my theme down to 2 columns (main and one sidebar). I think this would help make the Adsense in the posts look better and be less annoying.

The trick is to move everything out of your sidebar so you can primarily show only the important stuff in the sidebar (sponsers, popular posts, top commentators, etc.).

I’ve moved my Archives to the page menu (although I haven’t removed them from also being on my sidebar yet), as well as the search engine. I’ve also considered moving my subscribe button up there as well, then just have the sponsers, top posts and such in the viewable part of my sidebar.

If you can fit everything up above in your page menu then I suppose 3 columns would work well.

I just bought Mortal Kombat for Nintendo Wii, but I haven’t gotten a chance to play it yet. :(

I love the new wiimote controls with it for fighting, but it also has racing and other stuff on it. This should tide me over until Smash Brothers Brawl comes out!

Garry, your site is cool, but fonts are a bit large:)

20 Garry Conn { 06.08.07 at 11:36 am }

Thanks for the feedback. What screen resolution do you use?
