I often wonder what other publishers do to make money online. For me, I have been experimenting around with many different ways to make money online. I have joined quite a few new networks within the last month such as MarketLeverage, NeverBlueAd and earlier this year Pepperjam Network.
Pepperjam Netowrk is pretty cool I really like how their system is formatted and enjoy working with the advertisers. Their system is designed in a way which allows me to speak directly with the advertisers. Many times because of that I am able to work out special deals and get higher commission rates.
I haven’t invested much time into MarketLeverage or NeverBlueAds, I just signed up with both within the last 30 days. Actually with NeverBlueAds I just joined them I think last week. For me, it is challenging to get started with these programs for the fact that I too have to be productive with the systems that actually do make money for me almost guaranteed.
For me, I concentrate on writing content on many different blogs. I have blogs that tap into the aviation market, real estate market and quite a few other niche markets. One of the most profitable for me is the deal niche market. I have mentioned this quite a few times on my blog already.
My main business is in search engine marketing and with keyword prediction. I do at times use software to help me with this, but quite honestly a lot of this comes very natural to me. When I do use software such as Micro Niche Finder is it really for the purpose to confirm what I already predict myself.
The key to being a successful search engine marketer is in predicting the keywords that are hot. You have to know what people are searching for in Google and secondly you have to choose the keywords that people search for that will convert into money for you. If you do things like troll on Google Hot Trends, it isn’t likely that you’ll score the kind of traffic that will make you money.
My focus has always been in predicting and targeting keywords that have a very low amount of competition while also yielding a very high level of searches. For me, I am knee deep into aviation, cars, technology, soon to be boats and yachts, and many other topics. My favorite however, is deals and holiday shopping.
If you are curious to see what it is that I do in a typical day of Garry Conn world, here is a list of my 20 most recent posts on a variety of my deal related blogs. Below is a direct copy of the email newsletter that I send out to a few thousand people after it hits the 20 new post mark. The URLs will look funny as I track how many people open the links in their emails.

So far, I have 4 new products and ad banners on my site for them that all link directly to professional looking sales pages for the product.
With in the next 30 days, I will have only my ads on my site! From there I plan to have 3-5 new products released monthly with the same. Eventually my entire site will be monetized with my product ads not only in the sidebars but within posts and pages as well. Now all I have to do is figure out how to make my own text link ads!

You see that people. You see how my friend/hired writer treats me. When I said I wanted a “Partner” I didn’t mean I wanted virtual wife who abuses me when my real wife is away and not abusing me.

1. Sell your own product.
This is by far the best way to make money online. However, it is bit hard if you are new to Internet Marketing.
2. Affiliate marketing.
This is the best place to start those who are new to IM. ClickBank (www.clickbank.com) has many digital products to sell. Commission junction (www.cj.com) has the largest affiliate product list.
3. Sell ad space.
The most popular method is Google Adsense. You also can sell adspace to other websites for banner ads.

I’m guessing most of the offer links are affiliate, correct? Do these sites do better with the CPA or adsense earnings?

A.) Score the clicks… they are easy to get, but don’t pay very well.
B.) Risk not getting money from a visit with an attempt to get a higher paying action… typically a product or service that pays via lead gen or sale.
So with LeaderMagic, I made this so that publishers can get the best of both worlds. You can promote your affiliate based products without worrying about having an AdSense click rob you of a AFF Sale, but also too if the visitor isn’t interested in the AFF offer, scrolling down a bit, you’ll see AdSense. So far, it’s been working great for me. Granted DealBlaster.com is a brand new site; however, I have been pretty successful with pumping traffic to it.

That, indeed, is a challenge. Some prediction is very intuitive like holiday items, seasonal items…something that has a history of being or becoming a trend.
If it’s not giving up too much of your strategy secrets, what methods do you use to determine what is going to be hot as opposed to what is hot based on what one might find on keyword searches?
I’m not talking about gut feels or getting lucky either, unless they are somewhat based on research. I could hunt all day in MNF for words I “think” might yield a high ad cost and low competition, but it’s not a very efficient use of time though. I still do it from time to time by searching on words that come to me in the car or watching TV, whatever. But those are just flashes.
Is there something more reliable that can be done?

Mark,
If you were pushed into water and didn’t know how to swim, one of two things will happen:
1.) You’ll learn real quick. Or,
2.) You’ll die.
Either you are born with the natural ability to swim, or you’re not. I happen to have a natural talent for search engine marketing. However, just like with swimming there are life preservers (tools) that keep you a float and aid you in allowing yourself to learn how to swim, or rather in your case, learn how to successfully predict, find and target keywords that are hot. Eventually these aids become more of an extension of a new natural ability.
Luck will always play a factor in this business and as far as “gut feeling” goes… well, unlike the weatherman, who continues to keep his job and get rewarded for poor performance and predictions, an Internet marketer absolutely can not be wrong with their forecast. If they are wrong, they don’t make money and many who use PPC as their method for driving traffic will fall flat on their face. For me, SEM is the safe route. Only thing invested is my time.
They say time is money, which is totally true. However, with PPC not only is your time invested, but so is your money. A PPC failure ends in lost money. An SEM failure results in ever lasting content that eventually could become a hit under the right circumstances.
You said this,
The element that isn’t very efficient is not the time invested into researching keywords in Micro Niche Finder but rather the lack of time you invest into producing content based on the words that you indeed do find to yield a high ad cost and low competition.
In other words, unless you put these researched keywords to use, you’ll get nothing.
You said this,
If you are capable of perceiving that holiday blogging is indeed profitable, then what are you waiting for? To the best of my knowledge you have one blog that duplicates the strategy that I teach on GCDC. I have 7 that I let people know about.
You said this,
You’re not blogging. You’re not doing what I do. If you were, I’d see the competition in the SERPS. The reliable option would be to do what I have shown you and expand from that further.
So what happens to me when there is no holiday? Well, I quickly learned that I don’t make money because I don’t have any SEM traffic. That sucked learning that…. and its a mistake that I won’t make again. So to help offset the low traffic during off season holiday blogging, I am building up my Aweber email list so that when the peek holiday traffic dies down I can depend more on email marketing until traffic kicks up again via SEM.
I am about to hit my busy season coming up very soon… I have been drooling and I can’t wait for it. Right now, things are pretty dead for me. Back To School Sales isn’t all that good of a holiday, nor is End of Summer Sales.
All in all Mark, you have the skills, you have the talent, you have the support from others and you have the software needed to make money online as well as the knowledge of what software you should or should not invest in. You might not have as much time as I do, but something tells me that when you do have free time available, you’re not using it in a way that you know could be more productive for yourself.
If I had a full time job like you have that required a ton of dedication and commitment, I don’t think GCDC would even exist. What I mean by that is I have two incomes with making money online.
1.) I have my life stream income which is really my true day job. (aka… blogging my ass off until my fingers bleed from typing everyday) and,
2.) I have my pipe dream income which is quickly becoming a reality here on GCDC. Just a few days ago, I said screw it and now you see my blog packed full of various AFF products I am promoting. I have made more money from GCDC in the last 72 hours than I typically did in an entire month. I now see clearly why some blogs such as John Chow make 25k month.
If I were in your situation, I wouldn’t blog on MAMD until I had http://www.darngoodreviews.com/ making $100 / month and had established plans on duplicating that same success into a second blog just like it. I am not saying that MAMD is bad, I love your blog, but I too also know that you don’t have a lot of time to invest into this part time project of making money online. With that said, your time is very valuable.
With that being said, it took me all the way to page 11 of your archives to find just one post that had a title that I would have used myself:
http://www.darngoodreviews.com/page/11/
http://www.google.com/search?q=BestInCellPhones.com+Deals
Darn Good Reviews can indeed make you darn good money. When you name your post title, you need to ask yourself, “what do I want someone to type into the Google search bar in order to find my post?”
Will anyone type this into Google?
Fannie May Chocolates
Answer: shit yeah!! However, that is too competitive and you’ll not rank on the front SERP page.
http://www.darngoodreviews.com/fannie-may-chocolates/
So what about this?
Dude… the list could go on and on and on…. You’ve got excellent content on that blog, but your post titles are absolutely dreadful.
Above I said this:
With that said, I would immediately go back through ALL of your posts and re-title them so that when the Googlebot comes back, they can re-index these post pages with the revised and post titles so that you can start to score SERP traffic. There is NO reason in the world why that blog shouldn’t be making you a minimum of $100 / month right now as we speak.
If that blog already is making $100 / month in its current condition, then making these changes to your existing posts and staring to name your post titles in a way to captures more SERP traffic, you will gain $200 / month or more.
Duplicate this same strategy into a second blog and in a few months you’re up to $400 / month. Duplicate again and $600 / month… etc…
For now, I put in over an hour into this comment and I am now going to bed because the sun is starting to rise again.
