There are many ways to make money online and one way that I have seen grow a little bit in popularity is in flipping blogs. Just like houses, many people will either purchase an existing domain name or a brand new one and proceed to build a blog and then list it for sale in places like SitePoint.com Marketplace.
Very similar to flipping houses, in flipping blogs, your goal is to turn a quick profit and move on to the next blog project. This becomes what you do and the more you do the better you get at it.
With DebtConsolidationBook.com up on SitePoint.com Marketplace, it kind of has me thinking a little bit, “Is there a business in flipping blogs?” or, am I getting a little dose of false reality here since the blog I am offering is hyped up and everyone knows about it?
I spent some time trolling around SitePoint.com and I see quite a few very active auctions, some are going for high dollar too. Looking at these few auctions, I can easily see how I could do something like this too. But, I am hesitant. I understand that flipping a home will yield a quick profit. I understand too that simply owning a house appreciates in value. However, it doesn’t really “Make Money.”
Owning a blog can give you a constant stream of passive income, so unlike houses, the more blogs you own, the more money you can make from month to month. And that is part of the reason why I am hesitant to start listing blogs for sale in SitePoint.com.
Yes, I know that I could probably get a quick $500 to $1000 dollars per site that I develop, but for me, I can’t see that as being a product way to make money. I know over the long term of things that each of my blogs will make far much more money in the course of a year.
What do you think? Do you think flipping blogs and cashing in in a lump sum sounds like an appealing business? Or, would you rather keep the blogs that you develop so that you can collect on a passive income month to month? Eventually the passive income will surpass the lump sum sale; however, many people like seeing money flashed in their face in bulk.

Well it depends. If you create a blog and you do have the time to maintain it then you should keep it. If you don’t really have time and you are getting stressed out from maintaining it then you should sell it and start a brand new blog.
I’ve tried this method and it pays well.

Ok… well if that’s the case, then I am selling http://www.garryconn.com. Any buyers?

I agree with Germz. I think it’s more about whether or not you’re willing to keep the maintenance up. And the only maintenance I can see would be to periodically update all those blogs, if they’re blogs, of course. Naturally, you’d have a better idea about that than I would, Garry, since you’ve had to deal with massive updates from time to time.
However, I do agree with your point, Garry, in that if you can have them continue making you money, then it may be more profitable in the long run.

I think the best site is a community driven site. It’s hard work keeping up with these blogs.

I can see the benefits in flipping blogs, and also keeping them. I personally keep the ones that have the best chance of being successful, while selling off the ones that I lose passion in.

I think that there is a market for flipping blogs. There are people who don’t really want to deal with all the BS of building a blog, doing SEO on it, finding a nice theme, etc… they just want to buy a blog that is already built and just move in and call it home.
Sort of like flipping a home. Some people don’t want the hassle of painting, installing new tile and carpet, etc…

I think the concept is actually pretty neat for people with little or no income, stay at home moms are people with disability’s it definitely will occupy the persons time.

I see it as being a great way to make money online. One trend I do see is that many people end up selling their old car (problems) on other people. They beef up superficial traffic to the blog making it look all big and bad, just like some home owners would paint over black mold and make the home look real pretty covering up problems. I don’t like that tactic. If I were to start flipping blogs I would be more interested in selling the opportunity for the new owner rather than masking problems in attempt to get out of under it.

I like the idea of flipping blogs but I personally have some kind issue where I have a hard time letting things go…such as sites and domains. I get attached too easily I guess lol. Then it makes it hard to figure out a fair price because it always seems like it is worth more to me that what people are willing to pay. Even more strange, I will completely neglect those same sites I find myself attached to lol.
I do think there is good money in flipping though if you can get a good system down so you aren’t spending much time on each site. There are quite a few “info” type sites that I see sell for decent amounts on DP and although some of them are pretty nice quality you can tell it didn’t take them long to actually build it.
Blogs are the same but buyers do seem to be even more picky with blogs and want PR, traffic and revenue before they even consider putting any real offers up. But it’s not unlikely to get plenty of bids of $100 more for a few page info site on a niche.

I got my system down to a science now and could totally start producing blogs for the purpose of reselling. You know, it really does sound very appealing. Would anyone buy a blog from me that I built for resell if it were priced around $250 to $500?

Generally speaking: yes.
Although it depends on how much many it is already making and on how high is the maintenance.

Hmm, for the second statement I’m sure it’s true, for the first I don’t know. You wrote on this blog in the past (around december) that you’re convinced that in order to train and continue the bots to come back you have to post continuosly and very often (you do it indeed in your “best deals” styled blogs), given your stellar speed of article production, your low mantenaince concept might not be me one
Anyway please keep us informed when you’re going to sell directly or start an auction for a running blog.
ciao

Garry always on the prowl! I think it’s another stream of income you could have, if, you build the blog specifically for that purpose. I wouldn’t go through my collection of blogs and start selling if they are already adding to my bottom line passively.
However, creating another avenue for quick profits is also appealing, and, you could do this very easily.

Pretty much any blog I build will make money. I have learned over time many trials and errors. There are certain niches to stay away from and other niches that have hidden goldmines.
Not matter what I build, it will generate money. So the question for me to consider is how do I want that money? Do I want a smaller LUMP sum or do I want to have an IV drip over the course of time. I have many many blogs that feed liquid money into my veins, so… it does indeed interest me in the aspect of building blogs for others who don’t want to do all the grunt work.

I think it depends on the person. Some people can’t stay focused on one project for a long time. Flipping blogs would help alleviate boredom from doing the same thing all of the time.

Well hello Deb!!!
I almost forgot who you were stranger!
For those who don’t know, Deb works at MarketLeverage and does a really amazing job helping others learn more about their services.
Indeed blogging the way I blog can totally be a little boring at times. I do have an interest in building a few niche blogs and reselling them in SitePoint.com to kinda test the waters out so to say.
