What’s The Buzz on Google Buzz vs FaceBook vs Twitter?

What are your thoughts about Google Buzz? Do you think it’s better than FaceBook? What about Twitter? Lately on FaceBook there has been a surge of annoying things popping up. I remember a few years ago people were participating in various ‘tag your it’ blog games. The game was simple to play, but annoying to say the least. An author would copy a message found on another blog and fill in the blanks with the names of a few of their blog friends and link to them. The links would then generate pings and those authors would then continue the chain by duplicating the process.

Most people particiapted in these linking games to increase backlinks, which then helped increase their authority in Technorati and ranking in Google. Today, we have a similar thing going on in FaceBook. The only difference is that people are trying to tweak the FaceBook algorithm rather than Google’s. Other annoying things on FaceBook include overly saturated streams of updates that most people could care less about. Examples include FarmVille, Mafia Wars, and many other games that cause our fellow friends to flood our walls.

With Google Buzz, so far, we don’t have to deal with any of that. But, does Google Buzz help you keep tabs on what’s going on? Does it work better for you than Twitter? In all honestly, I don’t like Twitter. I really think Twitter is a big waste of time. For me, Twitter is nothing more than a linking pool. In other words, I feel like the only purpose it serves is splashing a very small and brief advertisement coupled with a direct link to view the full ad. If the brief ad captures the attention of random people, then they click. When they do, it’s pretty unpredictable what they will do next when they view the page.

Twitter reminds me of this old glitched phone service I discovered when I was a kid. I don’t remember too much about it other than you dialed a number to get an automated message of the time of day. The glitch however, was discovered when two people realized that they could hear each other talk when then called to check the time at the same time. Soon thereafter, many people started calling this number and it soon turned into what I compare to Twitter today. You litterally had hundreds of people screaming out their name and phone number and asking people to call them.

So anyway, this post really isn’t about FaceBook or Twitter, or this old glitched phone service I discovered when I was a kid. What I’d like to know are your thoughts about Google Buzz? Do you think it’s something that you see yourself using as much as Twitter or FaceBook. Do you think it poses any kind of threat to Twitter or FaceBook? Lastly, do you find Google Buzz to be useful or somewhat annoying?

Man I totally agree Garry. I thought I was was the only one on the planet that didnt get twitter. Its a waste of time for sure. I have over a thousand people following me and its so much noise I cant tell what any one is saying. I setup auto follow a while back and now I can’t turn it off… I’m following so many people that I could care less about what their saying. You can’t easy unfollow people either to only leave the ones you care about.

For facebook.. I’m rarely there either.

I hoep Buzz will be better… actually I’m personally going to treat buzz better and heavily screen my buzz buddy’s.

    Thanks for the thoughts

    Joe

  2. I have a Twitter account but have never really used. I actually like Facebook for the purpose it was designed for; keeping in touch with people. And I even like Cafe World. Sorry if TMI.

I haven’t even looked at Buzz. All this Goog stuff is actually a little scary.

  3. I was kind of expecting Google Buzz to bring together all of these social networks into one. I’m sure you’d agree that it would be pretty cool to have the ability to view pictures, click on links, and have conversations on multiple social networks from a single website. Unfortunately, my personal opinion is that Google Buzz is just another lame attempt at breaking into the social networking market…. Not going to happen.

I think Google Buzz is awesome. It started off rocky with privacy issues, but, those are all cleared up now. I found Twitter too minimal and really didn’t help me keep in contact with friends. I find that facebook is way to “busy”. Too many groups to join and always asking to be a “fan” of something. I rarely get to just keep up with the information that I want. With so many posts on facebook, I usually miss what I want. Which is pictures of my freinds, or, important links, or, how my freinds and family are doing. Now if more peple could join google buzz, I could avoid facebook and Twitter all together. Google should let people join Google Buzz without getting a gmail account. Just a desktop version. And if people could just see the mobile app Google Buzz has, it would blow them away.
