Who Is The #1 Make Money Online Guru?
Everyone here who reads this blog wants to make money online or make more money than what you already do. Really, there is no limit to how much money you want to make online. You could be aiming to make $100 / month and then hit that mark and want more. You could make $1000 / month and still have the taste in your mouth and want more.
With that being said, who do you think is the best make money online guru? I’ll leave this question very loose as there are many elements that could help sway your decision. Some people might rate the best make money online guru by the amount of stuff they teach others. Some people might rate the best make money online guru by the amount of money they make online.
Whatever the reason may be, here is a list of some of the more famous make money online gurus. Who do you think is #1 and if you feel compelled to speak your mind, list a few reasons why. In no particular order:
Joel Comm

Joel Comm started making money online with his Atari 2600 back in like 1975 or something like that. He later upgraded to a Commodore 64 and made millions off of bootleg games. All kidding aside, Joel has had a wild dot Com adventure. You should check out his blog and read is more recent series that is called the dot Comm story.

In the beginning of his dot Com adventure he was asked to play the star roll in the movie LawnMower Man. The editors felt with Joel’s such extreme interest in video games and virtual reality that he would be the perfect match for the character. Joel declined the offer and then later decided to have some fun making games for Yahoo! A few years later, Joel scores it big by telling people how rich he is because of all the loose change people throw into his penny jar. Chris Pirillo did an interview with Joel Comm back on March 29th of 2005. Speaking of Chris Pirillo, he is next on the list. Of course the above about the Lawnmower man is a joke, but really Joel did have a hand in Yahoo! games.
Chris Pirillo

Make no mistake, Chris Pirillo is loaded. There is only one blogger who I know has the ability to publish more content in one day other than myself, and Chris is that guy. Chris is very very savvy with site content monetization and is very territorial over his referrals and will get quite pissed off if someone plugs an AFF link in his chat room. I used to watch Chris on TV back during The Screen Saver days. Times were so awesome back then. Remember Leo? How ironic in fact, Chris as of 4 hours ago, just asked if people think that they will reunite?

Chris has worn many hats and at one point in time he even dabbled a little bit in the porn industry. That didn’t go very well especially in the cold weather if you know what I mean. So now you will find Chris Pirillo actually locked up in what appears to be a red curtain room (those curtains are really made of rubber) and is kept under a very close watch. Medical specialists tell him that he is LIVE, but really we all know that he is not. They keep him fairly medicated as well. Every once in awhile they sometimes over medicate him just a little bit. While it isn’t true that Chris Pirillo was a porn star, the above picture was shot in Alaska and was a photo that was submitted into the Naked Wonders Photo Group.
Jeremy Schoemaker

Jeremy Schoemaker for a long time has had a blog coined as the place that brings the skills to pay the bills and then some. Time and time again Jeremy downplays being an SEO. The funny part about Jeremy is that he even has his own Wikipedia page and if you happen to read it you’ll see what skills this guy brings including his SEO experience that he will publicly deny on his blog.
John Chow

After watching the Top Affiliate Challenge, I have started to question whether John Chow really indeed has the ability to make money online if he had to start over at ground zero. Ironically, I have suggested that people indeed should read John Chow dot Com backwards in order to learn how to make money online. Simply start here and work your way up. Needless to say, his blog is by far one of the most popular make money online blogs online today. His story on the Top Affiliate Challenge was very entertaining. Many now believe that he is a person who finds loop holes in systems. Some people perceive him as a big cry baby and a complainer. If you have time you should read the 100 or so comments on that post.
I am starting to lean towards the opinion that I think even my 10yr old child could run his blog successfully. I think that there is no way if he was put back into the trenches that he would have the ability to pull himself out and create a duplication of his hit blog, John Chow dot Com. I could be wrong and don’t take what I say personally, I think John is a great guy and entertaining.
John Cow

What all started as a joke become yet another hit wonder in the make money online blogosphere. Thousands put their trust into this mystery X individual who goes by the name of John Cow. Only two people know his true identity that I know of. Me and the other is a guy named Andy. Should I leak the story? Many people ask me who this guy is… do you still think that John Cow is me? What I really want to know is if they are still collecting his gas for global warming studies?
Michael Gray

Need some SEO help? Give Michael a call. He’ll be a nice guy and cut you a deal and only charge you $400 dollars to talk with him on the telephone for an hour. Michael does indeed have some crazy SEO skills but I often wonder why he has such a chip on his shoulder about Google. Some of Michael’s best post can be found by searching for “Hey Google”
Darren Rowse

Darren Rowse is by far one of the most popular make money online blogs in the mix. He is able to continue growing in popularity without the need of engaging into viral drama such as commonly seen with John Chow and ShoeMoney. Last year Darren grew a mustache for charity, but I couldn’t help but think that he was starting to look more and more like Nalts. Is Darren really Nalts? Hmmm…. I hear that Darren hates cats, I wonder if he has issues with Google Earth?
Aaron Abber

Ok, so like who the hell is this guy? Many months ago a guy who goes by the name of Aaron Abber just suddenly appeared in the blogosphere and has unplugged people from the Matrix and proceeds to tell others that there really is no spoon. All kidding aside, I had to list Aaron Abber because if you knew what I knew, then you’d probably vote for this guy.
Besides, Garry Conn dot Com doesn’t rank #1 in Google for his name just for kicks. So who the hell is this guy? Can he really be the number one make money online blogger? Once again, maybe Garry Conn is also Aaron Abber? I have talked about having multiple digital fingerprints on the Internet once or twice.
Aaron says, “Do not try and bend the spoon. That’s impossible. Instead only try to realize the truth.
Students ask, “what truth?”
Aaron says, “there is no spoon.”
Students question him, “There is no spoon?”
Aaron continues, “Then you’ll see that it is not the spoon that bends, it is only yourself.”
Mark Mason

Mark Mason is someone I would really advice observing as he is an individual who is taking Internet Marketing by storm. He has acquired quite a list of recommended programs for Internet marketers and is willing to share the knowledge with others. It amazes me how much he can get done in just a few hours of working late at night on the many projects has has in the works. Could be be the best make money online guru? Only time will tell.
All Kidding Aside…
These are all people who I do enjoy reading their blogs. I have learned actually quite a bit from everyone listed above. Granted, because I read their blogs I am a little biased, so really there is a long list of make money online gurus. Who do you think is the best make money online guru and why? Take a look at Mark’s Top 100 list if you need a refresher course on who all is on the ladder.

Mike Filsaime, Russell Brunson, Stephen Pierce, Rich Schefren, Mark Joyner and more all make more money then the guys listed above (Joel Is good though) and all have highly successful training and mentoring programs, so my vote on your list above is: none
Date/Time: 7-20-2008 11:31:39 Comment #17115
Hi Colin,
I am sure that you might have suspected that the post was done a little bit in humor. These people above minus Joel and Mark aren’t even really labeled as “Internet Marketers”. For sure, you are right about the famous ones such as Mike Filsaime. If your vote is for no one on my list, which I guess could be understandable, then who is your superman?
btw, nice post on SEO vs SMO, that was a cool read.
Date/Time: 7-22-2008 01:28:20 Comment #17227
Thanks Gary,
My Vote would be Filsaime (and yeah I guess people like Frank Kern might be considered more entertaining teachers) but Mike has released many hit training programs and even has another one coming out next month, so he would get my vote. That and he makes almost $500k a month so he knows what he is talking about

Date/Time: 7-20-2008 07:30:20 Comment #17108
Eban Pagan dominates his dating niche
The Stompernet guys probably have one of the most refined training programs, and walk the walk with their niche stores such myweddingfavors.com (Brad’s) and http://www.a2armory.com/ (Andy’s) though some of their customers are doing great things in other niches.
Ed Dale (who is also part of Stompernet) probably pays it forward more than anyone else with his 30 day challenge.
Agora Publishing dominate a number of niches and above all really know how to monetize content.
I am fairly sure there are a great many more people who know (and have had it confirmed) who “the cow” is, mainly among the prize givers he herded up.
Date/Time: 7-20-2008 11:37:32 Comment #17116
Hi Andy,
Thanks for the references, I am sure that will strike a lot of attention on these folks. So when do you think Cow will be coming out of the closet? I do enjoy what he has done with the blog. His posts can be rather LONG though, but mine can too at times as well. The eBook is proving to be a very good read.

You should also take a look at some of the following names:
MarkJoyner.name
Frank Kern (masscontrolsite.com/blog)
MikeFilsaime.com
ArmandMorin.com
JohnReese (income.com/blog)
Yanik Silver (internetlifestyle.com/blog)
There are many more of course, but those should give
you enough material to study for a really long time. =)

I do like Mark Joyner for sure. My blog friend Normal Joe just wrote a review about Mark Joyner on The Secret Classroom, be sure to check it out.

I agree about Armand Morin being one of the best. He is another that delivers the goods. He lives in Raleigh NC where I live. Never seen him, but if I do….I’m gonna stalk him, hehe…..kidding of course!
Date/Time: 7-20-2008 19:32:57 Comment #17139
I am sure though that if you ran into him at Walmart you’d have to stop him and try to pick his brain for about an hour.
If you did meet him and he was willing to spend an hour with you, what would be the most important thing that you’d like him to go over with you?
Date/Time: 7-20-2008 10:39:59 Comment #17112
While I have a ton of respect for all of these guys. For me personally Joel Comm is my favorite. Joel is actually the reason that I got in to internet marketing and making money online. I saw Joel at a seminar a couple of years ago and bought one of his programs that he seriously over delivered in value with!
With that being said, if I had seen Gary Conn at a seminar and purchased a killer program from him that launched me in to this world…..perhaps Gary Conn would be my favorite!
As far who is the best when it comes to overall success online, from what I’ve seen that’s probably Joel too. But hey that’s just my opinion!
Date/Time: 7-20-2008 11:43:12 Comment #17119
Joel is a great guy and one of the only people in the Internet Marketing niche that I know at least who would really seems to genuinely care about people. Who is this Garry Conn guy that you speak of? lol…
Date/Time: 7-20-2008 13:13:47 Comment #17126
I believe that to be true about Joel!
Date/Time: 7-20-2008 17:27:46 Comment #17135
I have to admit that I used to despise Joel even though I didn’t know him. All I knew of him was the “spam” I got from him from his several list with expensive affiliate programs. Every message I got from him was just trying to sell me something and it was annoying. (though of course my fault for joining the mailing list lol).
Then I joined one of his live “lunchtime” video cast where he sat for an hour or so and would chat with people and answer questions and give advice and such. I was blown away by how friendly and helpful he was and it was enough to show he wasn’t just an annoying salesman trying to squeeze every last buck out of the “making money online” people (though he does eventually do that anyway lol). Funny that I had a complete turnaround based just on seeing him interact with people for an hour but also goes to show how much someones impression of you can affect how they respond to you or your promotions.
Of course he isn’t really directly helping me make money, and doesn’t have a blog with real useful tips (without affiliate links and such lol) but I do think he is a good guy and has a lot to offer. I haven’t tuned into his lunch shows lately but I recommend them for any “noob” or anyone that just wants to get to know him a bit better.
Date/Time: 7-20-2008 19:39:43 Comment #17140
If you opted in, then that is not spam. I too subscribe to his mailing list and enjoy many of the emails that he sends me.
Are you off your meds?
Firstly, do you really expect him not to try to sell products? These affiliate links that you speak of, do you mean to say links that point to products that he has created or endorsed? It wouldn’t make sense to NOT link to his shopping cart so that people can make purchases.
On the note about his blog not being very helpful, I have to disagree with that completely. The guy has entire blog dedicated towards answering questions from his readers… how much more helpful could that be?
Date/Time: 7-21-2008 11:30:28 Comment #17172
Wow Garry, chill a bit!
I just meant that I don’t get that “trust” feel from a lot of the communication. Yes, obviously I opted into the mails and “spam” was just my word for his sales pitches. I didn’t mean they were sent without my permission.
Maybe I’m different than most people but when almost every single mailing or every single post links to some kind of sale then I lose that trust factor. Sure, I can appreciate some peoples opinions on products but when I only see links and post that are seemingly only made to get the commission I lose trust in that opinion. Regardless how clever or humorous the surrounding email message is, if it always ends with an affiliate link it doesn’t come across as genuine.
Didn’t really expect you to jump on my arse though…sorry if I offended you for posting my opinion. I’m sure Joel will appreciate your attempt to protect his virtue though…even though my whole point of the post was to compliment him.

My response back to you wasn’t an attack, it was more or less just a poke at you and to see what kind of response you’d have back in return based off the questions asked. I did add the “WINK” smiley and had a smile on my face while writing it. Really sorry that came across the wrong way. Here is an example of me jumping someone’s ass.

I would have to say that after myself (*cough* $14k in April *cough*), I would have to go with Darren Rowse.. He’s really the only one from the list that I still read, and out of the group, the only one i would trust 100%. Jeremy would probably be #2 on my list, although I dont read is blog regularly anymore. I stopped reading John Chow long ago after getting tired of reading about where he ate dinner the night before.. stopped reading TheCow after “the change” .. Chris Pirillo is just a dork (albeit a rich one), and Joel Comm is too much of a ‘marketeer’, which is not what i’m about.
Date/Time: 7-20-2008 11:53:09 Comment #17121
Darren indeed is cool. One thing I am learning pretty quick is that Shoe has quite a bit of experience. I was digging around his blog a few nights ago and found a number of really good posts. But I feel terrible, I should have included you on the list! You indeed had a most wonderful month and I remember you telling everyone about it. Shame on me….
What was the turn off with the new owner of John Cow. You liked the blog better when it was owned by Bob? Indeed Chris is a dork.
Date/Time: 7-20-2008 17:32:37 Comment #17136
lol, I’m the opposite about the Cow. I think it is much better now. Actually, it’s almost as if it has had 3 owners….started out great, funny and entertaining (when it was worth reading). Then started sucking for a long time then lastly started becoming a real “MMO” blog after the new owner and worth reading again.
Date/Time: 7-20-2008 12:12:23 Comment #17123
Wow, Garry. This is the first time that I have ever been mentioned in the same post as Darren. Hope it is not the last.
Self-promotion aside, I really like this post. I happen to agree with you about Chow. My reaction to him is that he is a pretty nice guy that was in exactly the right place at the right time. I would be very interesting to see if he could repeat his success.
Again, thanks for the props. Internet marketing part time (2 hours a night) is a real challenge, but I am really enjoying the learning journey. Working with guys like you and Aaron (and Middlebrook and Spaulding, etc) makes it fun.
Cheers,
Mark

Date/Time: 7-20-2008 12:28:37 Comment #17124
@Randy so what did we do to push you away… we starting showering more honest?
All kidding aside, to me the two most inspirational people for making money online would have to go to the late Corey Rudl (who was the person who got me interested in this back in 1996) and then John Reese (who re ignited my spark in 2003).
Both of these guys worked there way from zero to hero and had nothing handed to them. I may have not and still may not always agree with what they had and or have to say but over all there was (and still is) a lot to be learned from them.
Date/Time: 7-20-2008 19:42:30 Comment #17142
Randy might be a vegetarian and perhaps he doesn’t like steak… come here to me cow man and hop onto my charcoal grill. I have got three kids (soon to be four) to feed.

I am not sure but what I am sure of is that John Chow is not.
Date/Time: 7-20-2008 19:43:17 Comment #17143
Well… I can agree with that… but if you could only choose one person, who would it be?
Date/Time: 7-20-2008 14:32:05 Comment #17129
Shoemoney and John Chow are pretty popular, I like reading their blogs and I got traffic from them too.
Date/Time: 7-20-2008 19:44:24 Comment #17144
That is for sure… I don’t comment too often on either blog, but when I do, I indeed get a little bit of traffic from it. I would imagine that would die off a little bit once you become a regular person to comment there.
Date/Time: 7-20-2008 15:14:04 Comment #17130
I am not sure who it is, but I know it ain’t you.
Date/Time: 7-20-2008 19:44:47 Comment #17145
Do you see my face on the list? Ok then…. thought so.
Date/Time: 7-20-2008 15:26:21 Comment #17131
I have so many people I love to learn from, it would be hard to come up with one person. I feel I can learn something from everyone, no matter if they are hugely popular, or just stating out.
Really, I think there are too many to pick a top guru…because there are a lot of folks that don’t lend themselves to the term “guru” but in actuality are just that….
*cough…gcdc…cough….*
I like the list you have up there. I don’t know enough about Chow to comment, but I love Darren. Aaron has been instrumental in my growth, and Mark is a genius.
I really love John Cow, whoever he is….and Joel Comm is slowly becoming one of my favorites as well.
If I listed everyone I enjoy learning from, this post would get quite long.
I will throw out a few marketers I learn from
Holly Mann
Jason Moffatt
Yaro Starak
Again, not exhaustive, you can find a lot more from the links on my site, and some I haven’t even put links up to yet. I always find new people, and most are very, very knowledgeable. They don’t always have to be “gurus” for me to learn from. Quite frankly, I’ve learned a lot from the buddies I’ve made through blogging….our chat sessions have netted me tons in knowledge.
People like Shane Higgenbottom, Forrest Parks, Max from Moneybites, Ben Patton, The University Kid, Davin Ogden, Garry Conn…..I could go on for days!
For me, this would be too hard, simple because I feel I can learn from everyone.
I wanted so bad to list every marketer/blogger that is valuable to me, but again, it would be entirely too long.
Date/Time: 7-20-2008 19:50:09 Comment #17146
Mark Mason is a freak of nature with a brain the size of an elephant. That dude is crazy with smarts. I like how Darren stays away from the whole Blogger’s Drama Scene unlike Chow and Shoe… Darren’s blog I would guess gets double the traffic that Chow or Shoe receive. I don’t comment too often on his blog, but when I do, I get a nice flood of readers from it.
I enjoy hearing people say that. There is so much raw talent out there but its hard to find it when more popular blogs with less talent take up the limelight.

Thanks, Garry. But I am really just a guy with a few hours to spend on my new hobby. I will say that this is the first hobby that I have ever had that throws off cash — Although I have not had a $14K April. That is really cool.

I dont really have a hero per se. Theres a lot of people I try to follow in my type of work, but more often than not I find a person with a really big ego and no real sustenance. For example a few months ago I met someone, hes supposed to be this really great guy that will help you out with domain real estate and such. Hes the KING of all kings when it comes to this subject in particular.
But every time I talked to him he was either arrogant, nasty to me, or cocky.
I would rather have no “heros” at all and just figure stuff out myself. Than to have someone that is looking down on me.
My 2 cents.
Date/Time: 7-20-2008 20:03:12 Comment #17147
Kristi,
It’s crazy that you mentioned this because for me I am a nice guy… at least that is what I think and what others tell me. I’ve only had a few Google Alerts for Garry Conn that made a tear come to my eye.
But strangely, I do indeed loose my patients some times. Max from MoneyBites.com is a great example of that. The guy is super cool, very nice, but extremely persistent and aggressive with things and at times rubs me the wrong way. That guy has seen the worst side of me many times. I regret it, but sometimes it happens.
Blogging doesn’t come with a rule book, nor is their a volume two that teaches how to deal with the demands of readership and popularity. Those elements are only handled in a way that is dictated by the individual’s personality. I recently recognized that and I think that is the key. Knowing or being aware of how you treat others and knowing how you would or wouldn’t want to be treated.
For me, it all goes back to when I first started blogging and was desperate for traffic, readers, and backlinks. I remember exactly how it was… no one would give me the time of day, let alone a plug in a blog post. But through hard work and great writing, people eventually started to draw to the blog and find enjoyment or education in the things I write.
Granted, the blog and my ability to write on it has its up’s and down’s. I make a HUGE amount of mistakes. However… with me, once I make a mistake, I am usually pretty quick to say, “whooops!!!” and fix it. Some people live through their mistakes and justify them as being legit and or simply deny them entirely.
Thanks for dropping the comment.
