Why I Choose The Debt Consolidation Niche To Make Money Online

In the business of making money online, choosing the right niche or topic for a web site is crucial towards your success. I’d say it is the most important decision to make. In this article you will learn why I chose to build a web site in the debt consolidation niche to make money online.
Choosing the right topic to build a web site and market in is so very important. I believe that this is the foundation to your whole product. Look at it this way. Let’s assume that you pick the wrong niche but do everything else right. You post all the right content, you get all the right backlinks, and you rank very well in all the search engines. All sounds great so far right? Well, wrong! If you choose a dead or poor niche, you will not make money.
Choosing something like Beanie Babies might not be the best idea for the fact that there isn’t much money per unit in Beanie Babies. Let’s look at this from an AdSense perspective. If you launch a Beanie Baby web site for the purpose of making money online with Google AdSense, you’re looking at displaying ads on your site that have a very low cost to advertisers in Google AdWords. Secondly, you are competing in an extremely competitive niche which means you’ll be working your butt off to get superior ranking.
The above screen shot (you can click on it for large view) is from one of my favorite programs called Micro Niche Finder. This program allows me to research keywords and discover how competitive they are among other publishers and marketers. Secondly, it allows me to discover how many searches are done within a 30 day period. Piece the two elements together and I have a program that will show me the keywords that have the highest amount of search traffic with the lowest amount of competition.
The above screen shot shows keyword phrase: beanie babies. You will see that this is a HOT TOPIC in the search engines. In the last 30 days, we’re looking at 36,720 searches. Seems great right! Wrong!!! If you look at the strength of competition, you’ll see that it is 12,500 with a big RED light saying “Too Much Competition.”
But here is the thing, here is the other element that makes Micro Niche Finder amazing. Let’s assume that beanie babies was fine. Let’s pretend that it still received 36,720 searches and had a very low strength of competition. Sounds, great so far!! Green light on the SOC!! If these conditions were met, we could assume that beanie babies would be a perfect niche to either write a post about or launch a full blow blog or website, right? Wrong!!!
Look at the ad cost section. You will see that advertisers are paying only .56c to get top rank in Google AdWords. What does that mean? It means that when you display Google AdSense on your beanie baby web site that you’ll only get a few cents per click.
Traffic is very valuable and what you do with the traffic you do get is important. All in all, wasting a visitor on a .03c click is not smart. Each visitor is worth a lot more. So the key with Google AdSense is finding a niche that pays well. Let’s looks at a new screen shot in Micro Niche Finder.
The above is a screen shot captured from Micro Niche Finder for the keyword phrase: debt consolidation. You can click on the screen shot above to view a larger size so you can see it better. What I have done here is used Micro Niche Finder properly to fully research the keyword phrase, debt consolidation. The above screen shot shows results of excellent keywords that I can use in my debt consolidation web site or blog. Let’s break things down:
-
I have found keyword phrases that yield a very high amount of monthly searches.
-
I have found keyword phrases that yield a very low level of competition.
-
I have found keyword phrases that yield a very high cost to advertisers.
What does this mean? It means that if I use the above keywords in an Internet and search engine marketing campaign, I’ll have a very good chance at ranking well in the search engines for these keywords and when I do, I’ll end up getting a lot of traffic from it. Secondly, when the traffic that I funnel into my site or pages click on my Google Adsense ads, I’ll be sending traffic out of my site for a much higher cost per click compared to beanie babies.
Now, I’ll be honest with you. I am not an expert Internet Marketer. I am not like Joel Comm, Mike Filsaime and others. However, I am indeed educating myself and training to be successful in Internet Marketing just like them.
For now, I have done very well with search engine marketing. I have proven to myself time and time again, that I can indeed rank very well in the search engines for topics that I seek out.
I believe that search engine marketing skills and Internet marketing skills are somewhat transferable. However, in the world of Internet marketing, it is much like any kind of product marketing. You need to learn how to successfully present products and services to people to score sales.
So in essence, Internet marketing is much different than search engine marketing. Search engine marketing is simple. It’s a matter of successfully marketing your services and products, web pages, etc… in the search engines with great visibility and attraction to people. Internet marketing is much more complex.
Internet marketing involves building mailing lists, very closely controlling what your traffic does and most importantly utilizing your traffic to the ultimate maximum. Many Internet marketers don’t even waste their time with Google AdSense. However, with me, I believe that by using Micro Niche Finder to discover which ads are the most expensive for Google AdWords advertisers, it tells me what is totally hot in the market. From there, I can filter down my results to discover not only which keyword phrases are hot but most importantly, which hot keyword phrases will land me a great ranking.
I think that using Google AdSense and Google AdWords as a basis for choosing my niche, everything else will go hand in hand. In the debt consolidation niche, consequently, I discovered that this niche is very hot and amazingly has a low amount of competition for many phrases. These same phrases are very expensive for AdWords advertisers. This tells me that there is obviously a lot of money being exchanged with in this niche. Internet marketing will go hand in hand.
Debt consolidation is a rich niche and as predicted by researching Google AdSense and AdWords I soon discovered that there is an abundance of products available in places link ClickBank. Secondly, this leads me to believe that I too could piece together a wonderful product and sell it in ClickBank. The possibilities are truly endless and the ball is in my court.
All in all I will say this… choosing the right niche market and topic for your make money online blog or web site involves common sense. In this article I used beanie babies and debt consolidation as examples. Think about this for a minute. Beanie babies is a dead market. You can go to the Dollar Store and purchase a brand name Ty Beanie Baby for a few dollars. Yet, everyone still blogs about Beanie Babies and everyone still has their crazy collections of Beanie Babies.
Unfortunately, because Beanie Babies have dropped in market value, the cost of the ads in Google AdWords have dropped too. This stems deep into the root of the niche. Consequently, there are no products to sell in ClickBank, there are no profitable affiliate programs to join and all in all there isn’t even any money to be made in Google AdSense.
With just an hour of research, I discovered the complete opposite in debt consolidation. Think about it. How many TV commercials do you see and how many radio ads to you hear that advertise debt consolidation? How many times per week do you receive junk mail from people that say you’ve been pre-approved for a debt consolidation loan or similar? Debt consolidation is a very hot and rich topic on the Internet. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure that one out.
To be successful in the business of making money online, you have to choose a niche that is rich in money and balanced with a lower level of competition that will allow you to successfully have a good presence on the Internet.
For those following along in my competition against John Cow, I have chosen debt consolidation as my niche and in my next post I will be revealing the URL of my niche blog. Additionally, I have some amazing news about a wonderful product that has been donated to me from Joel Comm himself. This product is very expensive and very effective. It is a product that you will want to get your hands on for sure.
My next post will be coming very quickly. In my next post you will learn the URL of my niche blog and also discover how you can get your hands on this amazing product autographed, signed and shipped direct to your from Joel Comm. Stay tuned.

Wow Garry,
Great article. I knew there was a difference in the amount of money I was earning from Google, from one niche to the next, but I had no idea it was so drastic.
I can’t wait to see the new site. I’m very excited about it.

Yes… I too am very excited to reveal my niche blog that will be used in the competition against John Cow. That will come very soon maybe today or tomorrow. Sorry for the delay, but as you know I am still having trouble with keeping this site running smoothly. This site is now one of the only sites on my server and I am still experiencing trouble.
I might need to hire someone to look at the server, look at my WordPress install and MySQL DB as at this point I am starting to run out of things to trouble shoot.

That seems like a good niche, hopefully when you turn out as an expert in the debt consolidation business you’ll give me some private counseling. Just kidding, no one’s that much of an expert lol. Anyways, good luck.

Nice discussion here, Garry. I am always amazed how often people don’t start at niche analysis to discover what to do. They come up with an idea without any consideration for the market, which you show, is a bit of a mistake.
Glad to see you are back up and going. Site still loads pretty slow, the info is worth waiting for.
Together, we are stronger.

I have good days and bad days… there are times when I get so frustrated that I want to throw my laptop out the window and get a job at McDonalds. But all in all, I try to remember that there are much worse things in life that can happen other than a crashed or broken blog. There are people fighting for their lives, or fighting to put food on the table for their kids and people who work three jobs just to make ends meet. It wouldn’t be fair for me to complain about trivial things such as a broken blog. While it is indeed a problem, it is something that I shouldn’t allow myself to become very upset about as life can easily throw me different cards.

I love these kinds of posts, Garry! Not only knowing what the process is, but knowing what your thoughts are during that process is what I find so educational.
I’ve always taken the approach to find a BMC of at least 1,000,000, give or take. Anything too much above or below that number and I’d toss it aside. Would I be correct in saying that when it’s in the 500K range (as some of these results show for debt consolidation) and the ad cost is so much higher that that’s when the 1,000,000 benchmark becomes irrelevant and should instead target those keywords?

Hi Mark,
For me, using Micro Niche Finder is much like a weatherman using Doppler Radar. While in using Doppler Radar to help you predict the weather, really the only most accurate predictions are made by individuals who have natural talent in weather.
In 1996 one of my favorite movies was released titled, Twister. The movie stars Bill Paxton who plays the roll of a naturally gifted and talented weather prediction expert, Bill Harding. In this movie he is in a race against a rival competitor - an individual with a lot of money and grants but no talent - to see who can get their weather machine into the path of a tornado. the first person to do this will be the one who reveals vital information about the internal structures of tornadoes and eventually will lead to being the source of providing better tools in helping improve awareness times of tornadoes.
While team of really blue collar individuals didn’t have a lot of money, they still have very excellent and basic tools. The other team that was rich and had funding had amazing tools!!! But they didn’t know how to use them properly.
For me, I would relate myself in using Micro Niche Finder as Bill Harding had natural talent predicting the weather and did even more of an amazing job with the limited amount of tools presented to him.
Bill’s team couldn’t afford the equipment and tools that the other team had, yet the other team didn’t have something Bill’s team had, which was natural talent.
I am not sure if this answers your question entirely; however, I did read your comment and what you’re reading is the direct result of that.
In the business of making money online, indeed you have to equip yourself with great tools; however, its not in the tools that you should depend on for the best results, it is the operator of the tools who can produce the best results.
When you use Micro Niche Finder ask yourself who you are when your the operator. Are you Bill Harding or are you Dr. Jonas Miller?
Keep in mind, Dr. Jonas Miller got killed on the job by having too much pride and refusing to accept the advice from Bill Harding who predicted that the tornado would head straight down his path. In the end Bill was right and watched his rival competitor in his last moments as the tornado scooped up his expensive sports utility vehicle, mobile weather station being pulled in an enclosed trailer and co-workers. Nothing replaces natural talent.

Hey Garry,
I’m sure you are aware of the keyword series going on over at JohnCow…he’s talking about getting the money keywords using multiple tools (more than one is a paid tool)…is Micro Niche Finder the only paid tool you use? and can the same be accomplished (as being discussed on JohnCow) with just MNF…
Date/Time: 5-24-2008 14:39:36 Comment #14458
Hi Keith,
Actually I am not really aware of what John Cow is doing. I have been working non-stop trying to optimize and improve the performance of my sites on my servers and have been knee deep into a ton of things.
It’s funny that you do ask about this because I am going to touch on that topic tomorrow or later tonight in my next post.
You see, John Cow obviously has multiple staff members assigned to this competition, I do not. The huge problem that John Cow brings in this competition is not with me but with his readers.
In my game, I am keeping this real. I am one guy, with one laptop and one Internet connection. I only have a few hours each day to invest into this project.
So my model is very transferable to the common individual who is just like me. Most people such as Mark Mason, Mark Sierra, Christine Senter and perhaps even yourself have normal 9 to 5 jobs and family. They can’t invest 20 hours per day into following a business model that will guide them to success. They need a practice approach that comes from another individual in the same boat.
Here is something about Micro Niche Finder in relation to the million and one other products that may or may not be available: I am a cheap ass. I don’t buy nothing on the Internet. I buy a few books from the bookstore, etc… but I don’t invest much money into anything, let alone tools that claim to help make me money.
With that being said, Micro Niche Finder is $67 dollars (maybe it’s $97 now, not sure, you’d have to check) and it is one of the main programs that I use in my individual business of making money online.
Are there other programs available? Sure!! Do I own them? Nope… Why? Well, to be honest, I am doing pretty good as is. It takes a lot to get Garry Conn to buy software, I am very stubborn and I am an extremely cheap tight ass with my money.
As far as John Cow goes, he is really blowing this thing out of the water and making it more into a publicity stunt. While I am using my blog and asking the assistance of friends to help me in the competition (all at the same time we’re all learning) John Cow is simply trying to use this event to mask the “New Owner” gossip and create a lot of interest.
While there is nothing wrong with that, he seems to be missing the point. And that is to help the individual common person who only has a few hours a day to invest into making money online.
I am a very simple guy and use simple tools to get a simple job done. Making money online isn’t rocket science. You don’t have to got to a huge “Make Money Online School” with your freaking PDA’s, planners, and dry erase boards… that’s all corporate crap that I got out of years ago when I worked at Lenscrafters.
Maybe I am wrong, maybe I’ll lose… but in the competition I am not doing anything any differently than I have done in the past minus the new twist of knowledge I am recently learning with Aweber and mailing list marketing.
In the end, it all evolves around which niche blog will sell for the most money in SitePoint. And in my opinion I don’t vision GamerzReviewz.com selling more than my niche blog.
I will reveal my blog some time tonight or tomorrow in a new post.
Date/Time: 5-24-2008 14:54:33 Comment #14460
Thanks Garry…I just wanted to see if that’s the only tool you use and I’m happy it is. I’ve done well with free tools but I read enough about MNF that I decided to actually buy it….from your link I might add
I like that it allows you to accomplish multiple tasks within one tool rather than hopping around between several tools… It’s still $67.00…and I’m a cheap ass too so the price was right.
The missing component of MNF from what JohnCow is showing is that one of the paid tools that he is recommending will check to see if a certain keyword is being used by AdWords advertisers for 2 weeks consistently.
I’ve already been to your blog…I got a pingback from the article I submitted…Looks good…and I noticed a long time ago when studying earnings from AdSense that Credit Card ad clicks pay well…good choice of niche…
And it wasn’t me that revealed the URL to JohnCow….but at least he didn’t make it public…he just mentioned in the comments that he knows it….or perhaps it was just the topic he said he knew…i forget…either way, wasn’t me….
Best of luck…and thanks for the tips….

There is only three ways that someone could figure out what my niche blog URL is.
1.) John Cow would have released the information against my will.
2.) The authors who wrote the articles for me in the WhiteSmoke.com competition got a trackback from their blog.
3.) People are trolling around in Google Alerts.
The truth of the matter is that my niche blog has been done since the agreed upon launch date. But I noticed that John Cow was stalling on revealing his URL. We ended up speaking in IM chat and he told me his URL and I told him mine. The next day when I was going to reveal mine, my server crashed and set me back.
I have no problems with people knowing the URL at this point; however, sometime tonight or early tomorrow, my next post on GCDC will make the official announcement.
I have a very awesome donation from Joel Comm that will be used in my next classroom assignment, so for those who haven’t joined my make money online class, you should do so now.
The product being offered from Joel Comm is something that I personally own myself and I can’t even begin to tell you how much it has helped me in my business of making money online.

I am watching and participating in both groups, although I have not shared any of the information of one with the other. I think it’s wise to learn from as many people as you can. I also enjoy the traffic I get from my posts.
You are both posting on a publicly accessible forum. We all are adept enough to understand that what we and our competitors do is fully visible to all. To me, that’s an asset. I say bring on the competition. My raving fans see my unique value—I’m not scared for my business, and no one else should be about theirs, either, if they have established the USP and are working it fully. There is enough room for all of us.
I do have to say, though, Garry, is that I am running my business at this point more like you than John. I am a one-woman show, with occassional interns and outsourcing, and I like to throw smarts, not people at a problem. I like your approach.

Thanks Vicki!
That is a great comment. And you know I encourage everyone to join both classes and follow both sides of the competition. For me, I am just a one man show… aside from my full time job on the Internet, my personal life is very busy. I have three kids (16 girl, 10 boy, 2 girl and soon to be new baby BOY!! in Oct.) The older kids are in sports and many competitive / learning activities and the youngest is a handful to boot. My family and I live very busy lives and stay very active. So all in all, what I am blueprinting out for my readers will work for anyone with a very limited amount of time.
While I am not doing what John Cow is doing, by recommending to break out the dry erase board and get your notebook etc… I think by me keeping things very simple and very approachable to regular and common folks such as myself, I think the results will pay off much further than engaging into things that are well over the heads of many people.
My opinion on the matter with John Cow is that he is somewhat over complicating a situation that doesn’t need to be. I’ve always looked for simple and easy to follow approaches to things I want to learn. Consequently, that happens to be the same style I provide when I teach.

I think you both are providing extremely valuable information. And both are taking time away from other ventures to give all of us a view into how to get it done. I’m taking pieces from both of you. I will say, that my situation is much like yours. I have another full-time job, a part-time contract, my wife works and we have a large family with many committments. As I mentioned in my Welcome post on my blog, I’ve been building someone else’s dream. It is time to build my own. I’m not expecting to overtake my full-time salary, but earning enough so my wife could stop working in year or so and/or paying down a debt is the goal.
I know enough about SEO to get me by, but both of you are providing research methods that will take my own and even the other site up a notch.
I haven’t seen a trackback on my blog, but I probably missed the cut-off for the article as well.
Thank you for your lessons.

I’m back with a couple of questions. I watched the Micro Niche videos. I noticed in one of his tutorials he used a google blogspot blog. I prefer to have more control over the blog, but don’t necessarily want 100s of domains. Wouldn’t it be possible to have a general domain and then multiple blogs under it. So it could be “makingmoneyblogging” /jewelry_blog and …/debt_blog relief, etc. (naturally I would use MNF to pick better phrases). I use Yahoo hosting because I’m use to it. It isn’t bad, around $13/mo. Not too much, but still doing that 100 times adds up. What are your thoughts? He also seemed to use Squidoo. For SEO purposes it seems like you could have Squidoo rank for one term and have some affiliate links and then provide a nice link back to your main site for another term and have a combo of Adsense and Affiliates Anyway, I would appreciate some feedback.

Wow, I have been out of the loop and a lot has happened since I last checked in!
Garry this is a great post. I am just digging into affiliate marketing and your new blog is going to reveal a lot of things that I need to follow. I am looking at a similar topic to yours (not the same, I promise!) and am planning on creating 3 blogs with similar content to try and become my own competitor at the top of the search engines for certain terms.
I am going to be writing about this and will definitley give you some credit for the ideas that I steal…. scrap that, borrow, in my upcoming posts.
I have been reading Cow, it’s all very good but it is long, complicated and very hard for a silly little man like me to understand without breaking down and screaming for Micro Niche Finder to help me. I am sure Cow is making more money than I ever will….. but I am not driven by money, I am driven by a feeling of achievement and a comfortable living.

Garry,
How is your Debt Consolidation Book site doing in the SERPs? It would be great if you did a post giving us readers an update as to how this site is doing.
