Will Smoking CRACK Help You Buy Better Domain Names?
Alright, so its time for me to renew a bunch of domain names. It is times like this that I have to ask myself, “What The Hell Was I Thinking?” because quite a few of these domain names I think I must have been smoking crack when I ordered them. I have seriously got some really STUPID domain names. I don’t smoke crack, but I am thinking that maybe smoking crack wouldn’t be such a bad idea. I am sure that I would end up ordering better domain names. What do you think?
Here are a few domain names that I will be writing off as “Sorry IRS, I was smoking crack… forgive me!”
BLOGCLOTHING.COM – Hmmm… Ok, so I guess this is a new clothing line for bloggers. Yeah right!!!
BLOGCOOKS.COM – Oh, so it’s the blogosphere’s very first virtual Meth lab… nice!!!
BLOGDONALDS.COM – So when you’re stoned and McDonalds is closed, you can rant about it at BlogDonalds instead. Hmmm… Interesting.
BLOGDONATIONS.COM – Well, what crack head couldn’t use a blog like this. Stick a Paypal.com donate button up and give your readers a great way to enable your addiction. FREE CRACK ANYONE???
BLOGCOOKIE.COM – It’s all about the cookies!!! And when you’re tweaking on a rock, you can eat a blog cookie. These things are good!
BLOGFORK.COM – Stick a fork in it and see if its done! I know one thing, maybe I should smoke crack when buying domains. WTF is a Blog FORK???? I can just see it now,
“So, Garry… what have you been doing all these years?”, said friend. “Nothing man… just working hard on my HIGHLY successful blog called Blog Fork.”
“What is the blog about?”, said friend. My response, “Forking off… doing nothing, being an idiot. It caters to the CRN.”
The friend then asks, “What is the CRN?” I would then reply, “CRN… you know, Crack Rock Niche. Pretty much all the crack heads in the blogosphere visit Blog Fork. I use Google Analyics on Blog Fork but it doesn’t serve much of a purpose since most of my CRN readers have CRS!” My friend would reply, “What is CRS?”
I am not telling you what CRS stands for… let’s see if you can figure it out. LOL!!!
Anyway, those are some really stupid domain names. I have many more of them too, but these are the only ones I’d care to let you know about. So what do you think? Should I be banned from GoDaddy.com sober? Should it be manditory for me to smoke crack next time I decide to buy a domain name. They say that smoking crack is the end of the rope for many people. It costs a lot of money and isn’t good for your overall health. I’d have to say the same for purchasing stupid domain names.
So if you need some special treatment for crack, I have a solution for you:

That’s hysterical. I have seosnacks.com. I thought it would be cute (ugh) to serve up little SEO tidbits like snacks (OMG). I can’t even believe I’m admitting this. I might as well have had cracksnacks.com. Hey wait – I like that. It has a ring to it.

Dude… we could so be there SMOKING CRACK together… I have SEOPOW.com
I guess it could be a search engine optimization service for the Cherokee Indians during their Pow Wows…
I am part Cherokee too, so I am an automatic shoe in…. Instead of an Aweber form we have special Opt In smoke signals.
Hilarious dude…I don’t have such an addiction, but I do have some domains I will be letting go of
blogfork…lol, what the heck!

I nearly spewed Diet Coke® all over the screen when I read this post. Gary, should you decide to start a domain 12-step for those of us who obviously have a problem, please let me know. I will take a charter membership, please.
You know how certain songs remind you of a specific time in your life? Well, my domain portfolio has the same affect on me. I can scan the names and recall wistfully, “…ah yes, that was from my “invest in medical conditions” phase.” Not that it makes preventvd.com any more or less marketable, mind you…just a bit easier to justify, I suppose.
Believe me when I say for every gem on my list, there are at least two or three that I have to scratch my head and say, “what the…?!”
Thanks for the laugh.
This is one of the reason I am very cautious of being on IM with Garry. The last time we were chatting I was drinking coffee and he starts rattling off some of the domain names he was looking at…..yep….had to clean my screen again…..damn it Garry !
And I promise, there are more where these came from, lol….and yes, I have a few of my own.

You have spit out more coffee in the last year talking to me in the instant messenger than most people are able to consume it. There have been times when I really got concerned for your job. I only wish I had a video capturing the events. LOL!!!
I need to find someone who will honor a “Garry Conn Warranty” for my keyboards and monitors.
You would think by now I could remember, no DRINKS while talking to Garry.

I hear ya…I have a few for ya:
earthidiot.com
mylifeingeneral.com
blogchronicals.com – which may actually become a site…
…and several more. If you insist on buying domain names while smoking crack, your wallet will fare better going to http://www.diggityhost.com for your domains. Cheaper there, and same level of service as GoDaddy. Exact same to be exact.

I am a member of the GoDaddy.com Domain ‘Crack” Club, so I score
rocksDomain names for $6.95. I know I can get them cheaper at other places, but I have been a long term customer with them for many years. They got really good crack…. hard to make the switch. Why does everyone like GoDaddy?
That has to be one of the worst interfaces I have ever seen, it takes way to much work to register a name. I can have a site up and running fully hosted in the time it takes to get through all their junk.
I sold a site to a guy who convinced me to try NameCheap, and I quit using GoDaddy that day.
Sorry, just had to rant on that one….
Nothing to be sorry about…
I agree with you, totally!
I enjoy GoDaddy.com for the fact that I can pick up the phone and speak with someone almost instantly. Secondly, the person I do speak with, English is their native language, so that really helps me a lot. I do agree though, when you order their services, they do make quite a bit of UPSELLING attempts on those pages.
A second issue I have is the fact that I like to keep all my domain names managed with one company. I have over 500 domain names now and I really can’t deal with managing 100 of them HERE or 150 of them THERE, etc… If there was an easy way to pack my bags, I guess I would be open to that.
I guess the point I am making is that in the many years of using GoDaddy.com I have never had any issues. For that, they deserve to keep me as a long term customer. They will even call me on the phone to inform me that I have a domain name that is about to expire.
During that conversation, that take the time to ask me if there is any maintenance that I would like to have done to my account while I have them on the phone. They are very professional, elite, cream of the crop and that is the type of people I like to do business with.
I don’t mind paying more to have someone treat me with class. When I deal with GoDaddy.com, I feel needed and very much valued. This is no different than tipping my server good money for keeping my drink full and having a very nice smile on her face.
The Sky is falling, the sky is falling, Garry and David agree……..
And this shows our differences too. I agree with you on GoDaddy, excellent support, but, I don’t want all the other junk and up selling, I just want to register my domains, keep them all together and roll.
In the 18 months I have been at NameCheap I have not once needed support. It just works. And that is what I like. Click, click, and I am up and running.
I think there is a pattern here, you put more weight on the personal side of things, and I put more on the technical aspect. I think we have seen this on other stuff, lol
NamesCheap sucks!!!!
Joking…. I figured I’d say that. Very true on the part regarding “How Much Support Do You Really Need For A Domain Name”
Pretty much it’s just the way I am… when I discover that I like a particular barber, I stay with him for a long time. When I discover that there is a particular vehicle that works great for me, I buy the same thing over again… the same thing applies to computers, brands of clothing, various professional services, doctors, etc…
I know GoDaddy.com isn’t cheap… I am not defending that at all. They are in fact rather expensive. But, shopping for the best deals on a domain name isn’t my goal.
I like to feel special and since many people here on GCDC don’t give me foot rubs, I have to turn to GoDaddy.com for that.
Another excellent example would be eyeglasses.
I worked for many years at Lenscrafters. People would walk out of that place spending thousands of dollars on eyeglasses. I also too spent many years working at other eyeglass shops where people would walk out of the store spending only $99 dollars.
People don’t go to Lenscrafters to get the best deals. Granted, they come into the store with various coupons to save money, but majority of the people that shop at Lenscrafters because they want a very personalized service, they want to be catered to and they want to get their eyeglasses quickly.
These same people also know that they can get their eyeglasses at other places for far much less, but they are not willing to do that because they trust and value the service that Lenscrafters provides for them. They are a long term customer. Sometimes, getting the best price for services isn’t always the best option.
The “True Deal” is the perception of the service being provided to the customer. If the customer leaves the store feeling awesome about the transaction, then that ultimately is what I consider a great deal. With you being in real-estate now and also too with your many years in previous sales careers, I am sure that you know this all too well.
Garry,
That post made my day. Got a light man?
We think alike I guess. My last post was “Beware of Mind Altering Substances When You are Trying to Become a Domain King.”

I haven’t seen domain names this weird since Forest registered nudeandold.com! LOL
Wow thats pretty hilarious. Although the idea of blogclothing could turn into a site thats devoted to “Shoe Money’s Free Shirt Friday” if you know what I mean. You feature a shirt every day and it gets traffic and so forth. I really enjoyed this post. I have seen you comment around the blogosphere and had to stop by and say hello!

Blogdonalds.com??? Were you planning on serving fast food over the Internet?
That was funny!
PS. The new look of your blog is interesting… like the GC DC logo… reminds me of my headbanging youth. When’s your next theme makeover coming??? You should start a pool to predict it.
Hah,
Interesting post. I Don’t have this problem, , I always take a look at how tempting it would be to buy some domains I think of but generally pass them up. I’ve found a way to judge them… Ask a trusted family member / friend in person and see if they laugh when you say it and your plans for it.
Another thing stopping me from buying domains is that I I’d never be able to finish all the projects I started due to a lack of overall time. If found that if I want a domain really bad, I have to have a project outline drawn up and then be ready to launch before purchasing. I can always pick another domain for a project – the name isn’t that important to me
I think you should have a competition for the most creative idea that one can come up with for these crazy idea’s.
BlogFork.Com, you know may not be a lost cause. Take a look at the wikipedia for the definition of a software fork: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fork_(software_development)
Maybe a blog that takes creative commons articles and rewrites them claiming them as its own.
I have another idea for it, but I’ll have to save it for you because its just too funny

I say you start a competition for the most creative idea of these domains.
I’ve got one for BlogFork thats just too funny
Check out Owen’s last blog post..Logging Sessions to Twitter
Ha ha!!! Owen in our time invested over the last year chatting, I have come to determine that you indeed have one sick mind encased in that shell of a skull of yours…
Do I even dare ask, “What is your idea for Blog Fork?” LOL!!!!!!!
Maybe it could be a spoof for one of my favorite scenes from one of my favorite movies, The Matrix. (BTW… I am so pissed off that this movie is officially old, has anyone taken notice to the size of the cell phones they use in the movie. When the movie first came out, I was like, “Oh wow… those are some freaking COOL looking cell phones)
Anyway… there is no spoon and also too, no blog fork, because the domain name has expired and will soon enter into the redemption period… and soon my little domain name will get plugged back into the Matrix and it will stay there until the next NEO will come around and help unplug it… maybe Owen, just maybe that person could be you. Owen, you are the one. LOL!!!!
It doesn’t have to be “BlogFork”. If you could think of a good reason to dedicate a blog to the letter K, it could be “Blog For K”. Maybe “Blog For Krack”?
If it was SuiteK, I’d take it off your hands.
Cheers!
Jay

Hello Crackhead Garry,
I always suspected that you were a closet smoking crackhead. Now the truth comes out, LOL.
Godaddy must pass crack around free in the blogasphere as it is a proven fact that crazy worthless domain name selection increases by 427% when one is smoking virtual crack.
Thanks for making is easier for me to part with some of my Godaddy crackhead domains as they come up for renewal. Whew! I must have had a full load of that Godaddy stuff on when I purchased some of them.

BlogClothing.com – You see alot of peaple wearing shirts saying “im blogging this” ect. sell shirts like that on it? a clothing line for bloggers?
it might work???
Christopher – That’s a really good idea actually. Hey Garry, why not create a web site that allows people to type in their niche or phrase and then have that printed on the shirt.
Custom shirts to help advertise your niche…lol
Shit, I may look into that…

Dude,
You changed the theme before I had a chance to guess…
I do like your new theme, it’s cleaner than the last one, but I liked the old one also (and the one before and the one before that, etc.)
Actually – these names aren’t bad! Why? Just about any name with “blog” at the start is taken, and yes – even these crack inspired solutions will be valuable one day – or are valuable to someone already.
Instead of letting them expire, why not try to open up a “for sale” thread at http://namepros.com. you should get at least what you paid for them back – and might double or triple your ‘investment’.
For tips on avoiding crack-y names in the future – the best resource I’ve found for domain name choice and investment is http://Namehugger.com
