Wordpress Plugins Poll

Wordpress Plugins Poll

Comments are requested. If you run a self hosted Wordpress blog, and read this brief article, please take a moment to drop me a comment. This is a very simple Wordpress poll, it’s only one question and requires a yes or no answer. We are talking about three keystrokes or two and clicking the submit button. If you would like to offer your opinion in addition to your yes or no answer that would be great, but its not required. Here is the question:

Would you use Wordpress if Wordpress Plugins weren’t available? This isn’t a trick question, and there is no right or wrong answer… I just want your opinion. If Wordpress didn’t have the option of installing plugins, would you still use Wordpress or would you use something else?

That is all I want to know… Drop me a very quick comment and let me know. If Wordpress plugins were NOT an option, what would you do? I really want to see what the majority of self hosted Wordpress bloggers will say. I want to know how much value has been instilled into Wordpress Plugins. I want to discover if the majority of bloggers find that foundation of the software is its ability to be expanded by use of expansions or plugins. Or if the majority of bloggers have placed value in the software program itself.

I look forward to the responses. If you can possibly help spread the word a little bit and ask a friend or two the same question and invite them over to this post that would be great. Ideally, the more answers I get on this poll, the better.

Yes.

Plugins are handy, but sometimes they are over used.

As a programmer, I am always leary of the consequences of plugins, 1 plugin may work great, but since plugins are written by 3rd parties, 2 or more plugins can interfere with each other and before you know it you have a problem that you did not expect, and troubleshooting it can be difficult.

Even without plugins, being able to modify the code easily and the ability to edit non WP files through the Manage->Files system is a key reason I chose WordPress.

If wordpress didn’t have plugins it wouldn’t be a worthy competitor as a serious blogging platform, and so I probably wouldn’t have heard of it, so no.

Huh… heavy question….
Answer is: probably not.

WordPress is great in its core. It does many things out of the box. But, I just love plugins. I switched from Opera to Firefox because of extensions. I love the idea of customizing software to individual needs of every single user. That is the opint where open source software get its power.
And if I was not to use WordPress? I used Drupal, but Drupal also has its modules. But Drupal is so heavy on tweaking. You instal a module or two and then spend the rest of the night taming them into existing theme.

Yes.

I used WordPress for a very long time without any plugins, so I would use it without them in the first place.

Wow,

thanks everyone who has commented with their answer… this is great stuff! I only hope to have more answers coming. I would like to get some good stats off this question based off as many people as I can find to answer the question. Any help you can provide will be very appreciated! If you can ask a few blog friends the same question and point them over here to this poll that would be awesome!

Thanks again for dropping your comments, I hope they keep rolling in!

No.
I think WordPress and Firefox continue to awe me just because of the plugins and extensions that make them so much customizable to your needs. In the absense of plugins in the blog software world, I might have explored other platforms like Typepad. Right now, I am totally sold on WordPress. :-)

No. Wordpress by itself is not that remarkable, over other blogging platforms. It’s the customization that’s the big benefit. There are free solutions, paid solutions, do-it-yourself stuff, and you can even pay someone to make a customized plugin for you. I have a few dozen plug ins, and love them.

I wouldn’t use Wordpress if it didn’t have plugins. But that is because I would have to find something that did use plugins.
Unless of course Wordpress was very different then it is now and included everything I needed.
